Joseph Rudick Obituary

Joseph Rudick, 86, formerly of Larksville and Kingston, passed away peacefully at Mercy Center Skilled Nursing Center, Dallas, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

He was a retired corrections officer with the state of Pennsylvania, working both at Graterford and Chase correctional institutions. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of St. Andre Bessette Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he served daily Mass until his illness. He was also involved in many committees.

In his youth, he loved fishing up river, always looking for that big one. He was a lifelong fan of baseball, in particular his Boston Red Sox. Win, lose or draw, he loved his team! In his later years, he spent a lot of time caring for his wife during her illness. He loved to walk, do jigsaw puzzles, play Sequence and sing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Rudick; his wife, Stella; and brothers, John, Thomas and Michael.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. Mary's Nativity Cemetery, Plymouth Twp.

Arrangements are by S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to either Mercy Center, Box 370, Lake Street, Dallas, PA 18612; St. Andre Bessette Parish, 668 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705; or to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Mercy Center, Dr. John Carey and Fran McGlynn for their exceptional care and compassion. Thanks also to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for his care in his final days.

Uncle Joe I often saw you when you visited my mom Hedy at the assisted living center in Wilkes-Barre. And heard of how you would help out my Aunt Margaret getting to church too. You were a real sweetheart. I thank you for your kindness. You brought great honor to the name Rudick! Rest in Peace! My mom, Dad and Aunt Margaret will show you the ropes!

Mr. Rudick was such a genuine, kind and personable man. He was friends with my Dad, George, at Mercy Center. I'm sure you will all get together in heaven for a few games of Sequence. Rest In Peace, Mr. Rudick you will be missed.
