Joseph Slusser Obituary

Joseph J. Slusser, 67, of Tunkhannock, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 24, 2018, surrounded by family, at his home. He was the husband of Laurie Mugford Slusser. The couple was married for 46 years.

He was born in Dupont, son of the late Albert and Anne Kopec Slusser and was a member of the Corpus Christie Parish, Church of the Holy Redeemer, Harding. Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran.

He retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp., where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. He also owned and operated the Susquehanna Shores Campground, Falls, for nine years and prior to that was a self-employed in the plumbing and heating business.

Also surviving is a son, Joseph A. and his wife, Donna, Harding; daughter, Heather Santee and her husband, Michael, Harding; grandchildren, Gabriel, Zackary and Ryleigh; lifelong friend, Thomas Lello; and best good buddy, his retired dog, Duke.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Albert and Edward.

He enjoyed frequent kayaking trips on the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers with friends and family. There was nothing Joe couldn't build, fix or make just a little better. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care and extreme kindness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Church of the Holy Redeemer, 2435 state Route 92, Harding, to be celebrated by Monsignor John J. Sempa with interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

I originally met Joe at the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre. Then found out we both lived in Harding. We always seemed to meet each other whenever I was there. Joe was in the Maintenance Department. He did everything. I needed some electrical work done at our house. He came down one day and helped me with the repair and when he needed a hand, I was there to help him.

Our relationship lasted a little over 20 years. I miss our relationship, as I´m sure a lot of other people who knew Joe too.

We will meet again, I´m sure....
