Joseph Zelonis Obituary

Joseph T. Zelonis, also known as "Joe Z", 67, of Jenkins Twp., passed away Tuesday Sept. 3, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Frank D. Zelonis Sr.; and Ann Marie Hughes Zelonis.

Joe Z was a graduate of Pittston Area High School. He was a true "jack of all trades" but most notably worked as a Pittston City police officer, a truck driver for Keystone Automotive, and retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Joe Z could always be found on the sidelines of his children's games. He was a passionate coach and past president of Jenkins Twp. Little League, and former basketball coach for St. Mary's Assumption School.

He took great pride in his past role as a supervisor for Jenkins Twp. and a was a past member of the Jenkins Twp. Lions Club.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, where he enjoyed volunteering at the church bazaar every year.

He was a diehard Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends who he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank D. Zelonis; sister, Andrea Bocci; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Donahue; and father-in-law, George Donahue.

Joe Z is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Kathleen Donahue Zelonis; their 3 children who were his world, Megan Zelonis and fiancé Peter Frank; Joseph Zelonis; and Ryan Zelonis, Pittston; brother, John Zelonis and fiancé, Toni Macario, Pittston; brothers-in-law, George Donahue and wife, Nancy, Shavertown; Jimmy Donahue, Pittston; and Brian Donahue, Pittston; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that were like his family.

A visitation was held at Adonizio Funeral Home LLC, 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston.
