Kathleen Ann Hower Szychowski, 67, of West South Street, Nanticoke, passed away Thursday evening, May 11, 2023, at Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke.
A longtime resident of the city, she was born Sept. 8, 1955, a daughter of the late Edward and Alfreda Stavitski Hower, and married to the late Walter Anthony Szychowski Sr.
She graduated from John S. Fine High School and was employed by the former Penn Footwear in Nanticoke. Her love of sports was apparent in many aspects of her life. In her younger years, she played softball, basketball and field hockey. She then went on to coach softball and basketball for many youth sport organizations and Greater Nanticoke Area School District for numerous years. More recently, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and spending time with them.
She also enjoyed fishing with her friends and family throughout her life.
Kathleen attended St. Faustina Kowalska Parish and formerly Holy Trinity Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by infant siblings, Phillip, Patty and Nancy; brothers, Edward Jr., Richard and Andrew; and sisters, Mary Domashinski and Cindy Hower.
Surviving are her daughter, Christine Szychowski and companion, Ronald Mitchell, Nanticoke; son, Walter and Marissa Mahle Szychowski, Dallas; a brother, John Hower, Slatington; sisters, Susan Bialko and Tina Bralczyk, both of Nanticoke; grandchildren, Kaylie Mitchell, Dylan and Nathaniel Szychowski; and Jeramiah and Samuel Cragle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Private services and interment are in the care of Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke. There will be no public viewing or calling hours.
