Lauren Elizabeth Wilburn Obituary
A native of Scotland County, Lauren was the daughter of William C. "Sonny" Wilburn and Virginia Shipman Wilburn, both surviving.
Lauren was an optician at the Alamance Eye Center and was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a graduate of Walter M. Williams High School and Alamance Community College. She loved spending time on the water, in the sun, and with her friends and family.
In addition to her parents, of the home, Lauren is survived by two brothers, Rick Young and his wife, Stevette, of Darlington, SC and Carl Wilburn and his wife, Katie, of Burlington; one sister, Blair Wilburn and her boyfriend, Joey Smith, of Greensboro; her maternal grandmother, Tennessee Shipman of Burlington; her paternal grandmother, Mae Wilburn of Burlington; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and her beloved dogs, Fozzie and Tippy.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington.
The family will receive friends at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington, Monday, April 14, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
The family would like to extend special thanks for the love and care given to Lauren at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at www.unclineberger.org or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

My sympathy and prayers go out to the Wilburn family and all of Lauren's friends. I knew Lauren when she was friends with my sister Mandi Mathieu Oakes in high school and later from the Eye Center. She was a lovely young woman and will be greatly missed by many. May God bless you with His perfect peace, comfort and love at this most difficult time.

My thoughts & prayers are with the Wilburn family. I am so grateful to have known Lauren. She & I made some fun memories that I will never forget. She was the sweetest, most giving person. She always made me feel so special & like a big sister to me too. I will hold to the memories of her. You fought such a hard battle Lauren & you are going to be so missed down here but I know you aren't hurting anymore & for that I am happy. lauren was a beautiful, smart and compassionate lady, she was kind and her bright eyes and smile lit up a room. the eye center has lost their "mainstay" of warmth and joy. burlington is missing a wonderful person. gone way too soon.
