Matilda V. Karmilowicz

Matilda V. Karmilowicz, 95, of Stroudsburg died early Friday morning, Aug. 3, 2012, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. She was the widow of John Karmilowicz, who died in 1977.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Grace Mishkel Victor.

Matilda was originally from Kingston and was employed by the General Cigar Co., Kingston, for 17 years. In 1981 she moved to Stroudsburg to be near her daugther.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Walter Peeney, Stroudsburg; six grandchildren, Julia Duffy (James), Katherine Nicolai (Michael), Jennifer Gromacki (Peter), Michael Peeney (Stacey), John Peeney (Nicole) and Molly Peeney; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Victor, Virginia; and nieces and nephews.

Preceeding her in death were four brothers, Anthony, Louis, Andrew and Joseph Victor; and three sisters, Caroline Serafin, Jean Rutkowski and Helen Knell.

Matilda was a member of St. Luke's Church, Stroudsburg. She was a devoted Catholic and a loving mother and grandmother.

She will be remembered for her engaging personality, good humor and her parting farewell, "Do Widzenia"untill we meet again.

There will be a viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 818 Main St., Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Carmen Perry as celebrant. Cemetery prayers will be said at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

The family requests that memorial remembrances be made to St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 818 Main St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
