Petronella (Pat) Michaels passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital with her family at her side.
Born Feb. 16, 1928, to the late Peter and Mary Hudack Tomasura, Pat was raised in Edwardsville and attended the local schools. She went on to work in various sewing factories and then Blue Ribbon Bakery, Kingston, where she met her late husband Stephen "Buddy" Michaels. They were married 55 years prior to his passing in 2003.
Pat was also employed at Bishop O'Reilly High School and King's College in food services. She was well-known for her catering expertise, especially her veggie and fruit displays throughout the Wyoming Valley and the JCC of Wilkes-Barre. Doing what she loved came along with making many lifelong friendships.
She was a parishioner of St John the Baptist, Larksville, where she was the social secretary, choir member and one of the "famous" pierogi makers. She also enjoyed word finds, rosary group, the occasional breakfast dates with her church ladies, gabbing on the phone, and last but not least Christmas Eve dinner with family.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, Stephen, were brothers, Peter, Albert, David and Richard; and sisters, Mamie, Helen, Agnes, Irene, Herminia, Bernadine and Alma.
Surviving are her sons, Stephen (Janet Basarab), Edwardsville; Peter (Lynn Hoyt), Sweet Valley; Michael (Susan Vohar), Edwardsville; grandchildren, Lisa, Edwardsville; and Stephen (Maury), Avoca; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17 from Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Nesbitt Street, Larksville. Interment will follow in St. Cyril Methodius Cemetery, Pringle.
Friends are invited to join the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday.
The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Services Meade Street; Wilkes-Barre General Hospital 6th floor nursing staff; and Dr. Kish for the care and compassion provided to Petronella.
Family asks to omit flowers and make a donation to St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville, in memory of Pat.
