Priscilla Calabro Scovell, 84, of Plains Twp., passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Her husband, Ronald L. Scovell, passed away March 17, 2013.
Born in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Libro and Mabel Gnazzo Calabro. She lived most of her life in the Pittston and Plains area. Priscilla was a graduate of Pittston High School, where she was valedictorian. She also earned a bachelor's degree from Marywood College, Dunmore. Her career began as a nutritionist in Bethlehem, and later at Plains High School as a teacher, where she taught home economics as well as English and science. She then started the culinary arts program for Wilkes-Barre Vo-Tech, an accomplishment of which she was most proud. After she retired from teaching, she continued her career serving children through her work at Victims Resource Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Priscilla always remained active, doing as much as she could for students, especially the underdogs, and even did substitute teaching in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where she spent many months in their beloved second home. She was a great party and event planner, gardener, seamstress and cook. Using her talents and hobbies to do for others was most important.
She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish, Plains Twp., and a volunteer for many causes over many years.
Surviving are her son, Michael Nolan and wife, Renee; daughter, Marissa Nolan Post and husband, Jack; grandchildren, Gifford, Alexandra and Payton Nolan; Ryan and Amanda Nolan; Jack, Nicholas and Daniel Post; great-granddaughter, Maci Waitkus; brother, Lee Calabro and wife, Bette-Jo; several nieces, nephews; and Scovell siblings, John, Paul and Ruthanne Swisher.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gifford Nolan; and brother, Francis Calabro.
Michael Nolan will receive relatives and friends who may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Baloga Funeral Home Inc., 1201 Main St., Pittston (Port Griffith).
Marissa Post will hold a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. May 11 in Ss. Peter & Paul Parish, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Twp., to be celebrated by the Rev. John C. Lambert M.S.W., pastor.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on May 11 in Ss. Peter & Paul Parish.

There are times in our lives that we take time to remember those who made a difference. This lady was special in my life. Not only did she play a role as my teacher, she was the catalyst to my educational pathway. Mrs. Scovell was my teacher, mentor and a forever friend. She knew the value of education, the example of being a strong woman, inspired so many things especially traveling, supported me always, and taught me more than the food industry. I am forever grateful for this woman and I will miss her dearly....rest easy and be at peace.

Mrs. Scovell was my teacher at WBVT. She was the most influential teacher I have ever had. She was tough but it always came from a place of love. She pushed her students to do better and be better. We always knew how much she cared about us.
