Robert Kmetz Obituary

Robert Kmetz, 76, of Hughestown, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, after a brief illness.

Raised in Swoyersville, he was the son of the late Helen Shipula Kmetz and John Kmetz.

Bob was a graduate of Swoyersville High School, Class of 1966. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps right out of high school and served in the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Swoyersville American Legion and the Lithuania Club, Inkerman. He was an avid sports fan. He loved the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers and Penn State football his entire life.

Robert retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot after many years of employment. Upon his retirement he loved to tend to his garden and had a green thumb.

Robert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John; and aunt, Marge Shipula.

Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis Oliveri Kmetz, they just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on Aug. 19; daughter, Lindsay Kmetz; son, Christopher; sister, Mary Ann Stonius and husband, "Stoney"; in-laws, Florence Palermo (Tony), Jean Oliveri, Ann Marie Alba (Paul), Michelle Sodano (Dee), Stanley Oliveri (Dorice), Joseph Oliveri (Carmalina) and Michael Oliveri (Cathy); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Robert's family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Compassus Hospice for all their support throughout this difficult time.

A visitation and memorial services were held at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with the Rev. Joseph Elston, of St. Joseph Marello Parish Church, officiating. AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston provided military honors.

Wow I don't know where to start Bob and I have known each other for about 55 years we were closer than brothers I'm going to miss him so much from the first day we met we always had the best times I love you Bob God have mercy on your soul remember you Leo and Mark better wait for me and it will be the 4 musketeers all over again I know you will be with us watching the Eagles all year
