Stanley F. Makowski, 85, of Slocum Twp., passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at Smith Health Care Ltd., Mountain Top.
Stanley "Mack" was born in Glen Lyon on Nov. 11, 1934, the son of the late Stanley L. and Francie Slavinski Makowski.
He was a life resident of Newport Twp. and was a member of the graduating class of 1953 of Newport Twp. High School.
He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956, later transferring to the Army Reserves until 1963. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed by Sandvik Corp. as a foreman until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by grandson, Gregory Spaide; sisters, Dorothy Staskiel; and Eleanor Bonkiewicz.
Stanley was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed raising and training beagles.
He was the treasurer of the Susquehanna Beagle Club for many years. He also coached baseball for Crestwood High School from 1984 to 1994. His major enjoyment was watching his grandchildren play sports.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Joan Valentinelli Makowski, Mountain Top; daughters, Susan Mikolajczyk and her husband, Paul, Mountain Top; Doreen Ackers and her husband, Gordy, White Haven; sons, Stanley Mark Makowski and his wife, Linda, Wapwallopen; and Scott Makowski and his wife, Tonia, Slocum Twp.; 11 grandchildren, Michael Spaide; April Kuffa; Tyreek Spaide; Chandler and Hannah Ackers; Alex and Julia Makowski; Cole, Shea, Evyn and Kobe Makowski; six great- grandchildren; sister, Elaine Novakowski, Wanamie; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Crestwood Baseball Booster Club, 43 Waterman Drive, Mountain Top.
The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the entire staff of Smith Health Care, Mountain Top, for their excellent care and compassion given to Stanley in his time of need.
Arrangements are by George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon.

Family of Stan Makowski,
We are saddened by Stan's passing. It was always fun to discuss baseball with the former Glen Lyon first baseman, especially when his son's were active in the game. May your hearts be filled with memories of happy times.
