William Javer Obituary

William A. Javer, 76, of West Pittston, formerly of Harveys Lake, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Harveys Lake, he was the son of the late Tony and Helen Brin Javer. He was a graduate of Lake Noxen School in 1959 and later attended Williamsport Technical Institute where he received a degree as a machinist and tool and die maker. He worked at machine shops in the Wyoming Valley, including Knarr Brothers, Bruce Tool and Die as well as Proctor and Gamble in Mehoopany.

He was an Army veteran of Vietnam, specializing as a helicopter mechanic. In 1972, Bill took over his family business, Javer's Store, and operated it until his retirement in 2015. Bill was well known as the kind of guy who would help anyone in need and give back to the community. He always enjoyed sitting in front of the store, waving and watching the passers by as they blew their horns and waved. Bill also enjoyed making crafts and furniture. Generations of customers would come to the store for their yearly Harveys Lake souvenirs and of course, their candy and ice cream. Many friends and neighbors could be seen sitting with Bill telling stories of the "good old days." Bill was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, and the Harveys Lake American Legion Post 967.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hartwyk.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Shirley Gregory; sons, Tony Javer and his wife, Lynn and their son, Michael and daughter, Jocelyn; Greg Javer and his fiancée, Jennifer Rosario and their daughter, Elyse; sister, Louise DeMichele; nephew, Joe DeMichele and his wife, Lynn and their son, Ryan; niece, Jane DeMichele; niece, Michele Cartier and her husband, John, and their children, Alyssa and Jason; brother, Fred Javer; nephew, Rick Seigel; numerous cousins.

The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. Interment will be in Perrego Cemetery, Harveys Lake. Friends may call form 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Bill's family would like to thank Jane from Home Sweet Home; all of the staff at Senior Adult Daycare, Plains Twp.; the staff and therapy department at Highland Manor;nurses at Celtic Hospice; and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp., staff and doctors for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
