I've known Fred for who knows how long. At times he was kind of like an uncle. Always there at Thomas's activities and events. It's gonna be hard not being able to hear his voice in reality, but I will always remember it in my soul. Fred,Marlene,Thomas, I love you guys.

To the entire Showalter family,

I will always remember Fred for his humor. In elementary school, he would always "chaperon". I say "chaperon" because the girls didn't like the boys and the boys didn't like girls, but they still called the parents, chaperons. Fred was usually one of the only dads there. It had to be hard being surrounded by moms, screaming girls, and boisterous boys. He always seemed to make the best of the situation. I remember when we had a field trip to Kansas City, he raced my mom there. They would always do that, but this time they decided on a tie (my mom still thinks she won). Fred would always make the worst and most uninteresting field trips fun and entertaining. He could always make us laugh. I will always remember Fred for that. I see Thomas as a clone of Fred. Thomas looks about the same as Fred, and has the same humor. Fred will live on through Thomas and our thoughts. Thomas, I'm always here for you, whenever you need a little boost!

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Marlene and Thomas and the families during this difficult time. Fred has a special place in all of our hearts. I think about all the good times and remember when Fred harvested the first deer ever taken at the Lake Perry farm. Thomas helped us that day and I will always remember that day that we spent together.

Marlene & Thomas,

Words cannot express the sadness in my heart to lose Fred. There is a "kinship" among "us", for the loss is greater when one passes for those of us who remain. I pray that God gives you the strength and courage through your grieving and in the days ahead. Thomas, when you need someone to just listen or sit in silence with you, Jared will always be there. Marlene, I am always just a phone call away.

I regret so that I will not be able to attend but Scouting Obligations prevent me. I hope you understand and know that I am saddened beyond words at Fred's passing. The thing I remember most about Fred is his teasing and his matter-of-fact attidtude. You just had to love him. And how much he enjoyed getting the "flip-flops" for me at Many Points summer camp - remember? the pink ones with the obnoxious flowers on them. He always made everyone around him smile and laugh. He will be greatly missed. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

Marlene and Thomas,

We are saddened to hear of Fred's passing. I have known Fred for a long time. Fred always took time to talk when I came by.

Take heart in the fact that his days of suffering were short. He is resting comfortably now. He is in heaven, waiting for the day he will see both of you again.

Be strong in the days ahead, Fred would want you to remember the good things and the good times you shared.

Thomas, count on your friends and neighbors. Live your life to make your dad proud. Please stop by if you need to talk.

Marlene & Thomas,

My first memory of Fred is when he was doing "field-trip duty" when Thomas and Amy were in 4th grade. I think he was the only dad brave enough to spend time in that cave in Kansas City with a bunch of mom's & 10-year olds. His unique observations certainly made the trip more interesting! He was always friendly and we will sure miss seeing his smiling face.

You're in our thoughts and prayers.
