My sincerest condolences to Gilbert's family. I hope things get better for you soon.
I too have fond memories of Burt, having also grown up in the "Bottoms" area of Topeka. In the final analysis life leaves us only memories of departed friends. As I myself age and my friends begin to dwindle, those memories become more precious than gold to me. Burt leaves a pretty big hole but his memory will remain with me until one day when maybe we'll all be together again. Hope there's an Abner's Drug Store there!

Kids will miss Rod. Rod was like another grandfather to them. He taught them his love of nature and gardening. Anytime they see and Eagle fly it will remind them of him.

Just heard of the passing of my boyhood friend Gilbert "Burt" Rodriguez. I knew Gilbert from the time we were both about 10 years old. His family lived across the alley from our house at 205 Madison Street. We grew up together through our young boyhood, sold newspapers, picked wheat from empty boxcars, went hiking along the river, and grew into our teen years where we
experienced many unforgettable times. Gilbert, Paul Martinez, Paul Noriega, Joker Mendez, Richard Rocha, Phil Gutierrez, Richard Flores, Roger Blancas, Al Gonzales, and so many more Bottoms Boys spent most every day together having fun, getting into trouble, and enjoying life. One of the pleasures I enjoyed about the Bottoms Reunion was knowing that I would see and
talk to Burt. We always reminisced about
the good old bad old days.
We still wear our Diamond Duke tattoo on our left wrists. Gilbert did the art work for everyone. He was a wonderful friend, hard worker, a man of his word, and a trusted
friend. I will miss seeing him. So sad to hear of his passing. God bless his family and may they always preserve his memory.

With a heavy, sad heart I send my sincere sympathy to the family of Gilbert. We grew up in the Bottoms and have great memories of that time. He was a great friend and always great time to see him at the Bottoms reunion. Gilbert was a quiet person who had a heart of gold and was a friend to all. As a Marine veteran I salute Gilbert for his honorable and faithful service to his country.Duty, Honor, Commitment. Sleep well my friend.Semper Fidelis.
