Greg Thompson Obituary

Greg Thompson Greg Thompson, Castle Rock, Colorado died on Friday, June 6, 2014. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 19, 1948. Greg spent most of his life in Topeka, Kansas. He served in the Marine Corp Reserves for 6 years and worked as an electrician and electrical estimator/project manager for 39 years for Torgeson Electric. Greg was the bass guitarist for Topeka bands, The Young Raiders and The Rising Suns in the 60's. Both bands were inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame (2007, 2009). Greg was an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Rathe Thompson, his daughter Sara Thompson, both of Castle Rock, Colorado, his son Casey Thompson, Elizabeth, Colorado, four grandchildren, Daisy, Marley, Lucy and Beckham, brothers Randy Thompson (Billie) of Mission, Texas, and Jim Thompson (Laura) of Hoyt, Kansas, sister Judy Thompson of Topeka, Kansas, his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Athel Thompson and Patricia (Pappas) Thompson, and foster sister, Jan Ashmore, his in-laws Hubert and Teda Rathe, Beatrice, Nebraska and niece Suzanne Miller, Lincoln, Nebraska. A memorial celebration will be held at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday, June 14th from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Memorials to the Kansas Music Hall of Fame (P.O. 4957, Topeka, KS 66604-4957).

My condolences to the Thompson Family,

I haven't seen Greg since moving to Colorado. Greg always had a joke to tell every time I would see him. I will miss his emails he would send me. We knew each other from the electrical industry.

So saddened to hear of Greg's passing. I have not seen him since shortly before the move to Colorado, but I will always remember his since of humor and how he made me laugh. We knew one another thru the electrical business. God definitely gained a fun Angel!!
