Keith Landis Obituary

Keith R. Landis, 67, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at his home. He was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Topeka, the son of Samuel D. and Lois Boutwell Landis. He was a graduate of Silver Lake High School and received a bachelors degree in Political Science from Kansas State University in Manhattan. Mr. Landis served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Captain. He served as the Christian Science Committee on Publication for Kansas. He was a member of the NMRA, secretary of the MCOR and editor of The Brass Pounder. He married Sally Dewhirst. She preceded him in death. He married Marilyn "Joanne" Johnson on Nov. 22, 1968, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She preceded him in death on Jan.17, 1995. He married Laurie Merkert on July 23, 1995 in Topeka. She survives. Keith was a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist of Boston, Mass., and First Church of Christ, Scientist in Topeka. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey G. Landis, and his wife, Cara, of Topeka; a daughter, Lori L. Hogan, of Topeka; three brothers, Brent D. Landis, of Silver Lake, David Landis, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Alan Landis, of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren, Joseph "Reid" Hogan and Sara L. Landis, both of Topeka. Mr. Landis was cremated. Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Monday Aug. 25, 2003, at Davidson Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 2600 SW Fairlawn, Topeka, Kan., 66614.

I worked with Keith for several years as a lobbyist at the Statehouse and was sad to hear of his passing. He was always friendly and fun to talk with.

I work in the office next to Keith's in the Jayhawk Towers building. He seemed like a really pleasant and genuine person. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
