Hi Poppy, hi. I want you, my sweet Aunt Betty, your children, your sister and her childen to know that your family and friends are still thinking about you, about this senseless tragedy, about
the devastation that has stricken the heart of all who love you, how many many times we think of you each day, each hour.
I called your beautiful Mom tonight. She is a strong woman and shows a brave front but I feel her broken heart and I wish there was a way to mend it. While you and Uncle Dan are sharing those Snickers Bars up there, remember to shower her with peace and healing. This guest book will close, but memories of you are written in our hearts and will be forever with us. I love you, Poppy and thank you so very much for those memories. Always and always, Joanie
P.S. Well I think I've shorted out my keyboard tonight with my tears. You always were an angel, you were, you are.

The special spirit we knew as Paula has transcended the life with which we are familiar and entered into an existence that is a mystery to us. We each have our own faith, beliefs and random thoughts about what that existence is like. I like to imagine Paula in a place of perfect peace and pure joy, newly-born in sacred knowledge, with infinite new glorious projects to undertake.
You wait, next spring a new species of flower will mysteriously appear in Kansas. I suppose we’ll have to call them “week lilies” because their blooms will last seven times longer than day lilies! Later, green tea will spontaneously start flowing from our kitchen faucets – we’ll try drinking it and suddenly realize we feel better! And right after that, veterinarians will be baffled by the miraculous new longevity of dogs, who are living 50, 60, even 100 years, and never getting sick.
If it’s something to make the world a more wonderful place, Paula will get it done. And it will make her happy to do it. How very blessed we are to have Paula on the job and in our hearts.

Danielle,
I was so sad to hear the news.I was lucky enough to have met your mother at the salon through you. Everytime you would get your hair done at Dillards, there she was in town to visit and eat lunch with you afterwards. The mother, daughter bond you two shared was one everybody would wish they could have. You two always had me laughing. When she was in my chair, our main conversation was her two kids. She cared so much about both you and your brother.I looked up to her and thought she was just beautiful inside and out.I am going to miss her so much.Your in my thoughts and prayers.

Paula is missed by friends and co-workers. She had a vibrant smile all the time. I first met Paula at Heifner's. A wonderful help and so knowledgeable. Then she came to my son John Mark Patterson's surprise birthday party and farewell pary when he left the lottery.May God be with you and give you comfort and peace as Paula goes on her journey to eternal life.

Dani, Nick and family;
Paula was a ray of sunshine...always on the go and always with a smile to share. She had a strong personality and a "go to" attitude. She will be greatly missed at the lottery. She always talked about Dani and Nick with great pride and love. She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Dani, Nick, and Family,
I worked with your mother at the Lottery. She was such a wonderful person. She was always smiling and very energetic. I used to ask her if I could borrow some of her energy so I could get through the day. I feel so lucky to have known her. My heart goes out to now. I can't imagine what you are going through. Just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

My dear cousin Paula, otherwise known as "Poppy" to our family, I have had you on my mind so often lately and meant to get your number and give you a call. I waited too long and I am so sorry.
I went through albums and found pictures of us as kids. We had a lot of fun, didn't we? The farm, hiding Grandpa's false teeth, fixing Gramma's hair in hilarious styles, vacations at the cabin in Colorado, your house, my house, together for weeks at a time. You were always the good one, me the brat. You kept me in line. I guess we balanced each other somehow. What I want to say is that I still love you Poppy, I always will and I can't quite get my heart or my head to understand why this happened. I wish I could have talked and giggled with you one more time, no, many more times. I saw your picture in the newpaper story, that megawatt smile. Even after all these years I think I would have known you had we just run into each other somewhere. Aunt Betty, my heart is broken for you, for Paula's children, Martha, the twins. As a mother I can imagine how devastating this is for you. I love you and remember how good you always were to me, how much fun you and my Mother had when you were together, how glamorous you both were, okay, okay, still are! Poppy, are you with Uncle Dan, have you seen my Dad? Hug them for me and tell them I love and miss them. Give Gramma a kiss and Grandpa the old "oh oh bally" and a tap on his "hole in the head". You have left an overwhelming sadness in my heart, buckets of tears on my shirt and a void in the world.

Danni and Nick, I don't begin to know how or where start. All I can say is that your Mother loved you both so much, and how proud she was of both of you, and what a good friend she was to me. Paula will always be in my heart, and please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with during this very difficult time.

To Paula's entire family:
I was so, so sorry to read of Paula's death. I worked with her at Capital City Bank many years ago, and we had reconnected in the past few years. Seeing her picture in Saturday's paper, she still had that light up the room smile and I could almost hear her giggle. She was a very specail lady and I know Dani and Nick, you were the lights of her life. In death it is difficult to know why, and knowing how God took her, perhaps there will someday be some comfort knowing He needed a young, beautiful bright and shining angel. Know she is always watching over you and the love you shared will be always in your hearts.

Paula was the epitome of the Energizer Bunny. She had more energy in her pinkie finger than I have in my whole body. She was always on the move, and always on a mission. Her tirelessness always amazed me.
We both share a love for plants, and exchange seeds and starter plants each spring…then give each other reports on our gardens thru the summer months. I always brought the best squash and other veggies from our garden to her, and the biggest, brownest eggs from our chickens…just to watch her smile.
Paula’s smile was the best. She poured so much enthusiasm into a smile. And what made her light up the most was talking about her children. She’d talk about Danielle and Nick, and one knew her pride and love for them was boundless. How fortunate you two were to have such a loving and caring mother. I’m very sorry you didn’t have her longer, but you surely had all she had to give…and many good memories to hold in your hearts.
Peace to you Paula, and to your family. I’ll miss that smile…and your decadent chocolate desserts.

Danielle and our daughter, Laura, were fast friends in elementary and middle school. Paula used to have the girls for overnights, take them shopping, and even fix their hair in the morning (she could french braid the best I ever saw!!). Paula was a wonderful mom and a great friend to our whole family. We were so saddened to hear of her death. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you. Carolyn and Mike Fleming Leawood, Kansas

To Paula’s Family and Friends -- My sincere condolences for your loss. Paula was a caring and compassionate person. She was optimistic and encouraging and would be one of the first to volunteer to do whatever was needed -- or, she would have whatever needed to be done done before you even had a chance to ask for volunteers. :-) One hundred percent is all Paula knew. She enjoyed her work, her co-workers, her friends, her family … life. Paula touched the lives of many, she will be remembered fondly, and she will be missed. I am honored to have had the opportunity to know and work with Paula and wish her peace for all eternity.

Paula, Pat Miller, and I became friends when our sons (Blake, Nick, and Matt) became friends at MPHM School. Paula always had a smile and a little giggle that made everything seem okay. She also made the best brownies. I will miss our 4th of July celebrations and Christmas Eve gatherings. Paula will always be in my thoughts as I pray for Dani, Nick, Betty, and the rest of her family. Love, Judy and Tom Conklin

Nick and family-
We were so sorry to hear of the tragic loss of your mom. I know that this must be a blow to all of you, but it has reminded us how precious each minute is, and to tell those around us how much we love them. We consider the former members of the Topeka High Soccer teams and their families to be an extension of our family. We love you guys and we hate to have tragedies happen to those we love.
You all are in our thoughts and prayers.
