William Duncan Obituary

CARBONDALE - William R. “Bill” Duncan, 63, Carbondale, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at his home. He was born Oct. 10, 1941, in Severance, the son of Frank J. and Rosella Sparks Duncan. He served in the Air Force. Bill was a welder for Allis Chalmers Co. and a band builder at the Goodyear Rubber & Tire Co., both in Topeka. He was the chief of police at Carbondale for 20 years. He was a former Osage County sheriff deputy and he served in the Scranton Police Department. Mr. Duncan was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Scranton and the Carbondale Lions Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald R. Duncan, in 1999; and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Sandra K. Duncan, of the home; a son, Joseph F. Duncan and his wife, Nichole, and their children Tristen and Cameron, Melvern; two daughters, Angela K. Ullery, and her children Kaylee and Paige, Carbondale, and Melinda L. Garrison and her husband, Dustin, and their children Dakota and Colb y, Carbondale; a daughter-in-law, Sherri Duncan, and her children Lindsey, Whitney and Mandey, Berryton; three brothers, Wesley Duncan, St. Joseph, Mo., James F. Duncan, Savannah, Mo., and George Duncan, Faucett, Mo.; and three sisters, Marie Puckett, Troy, Louise Noll, Winchester, and Susan Wills, Grandview, Mo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Scranton. Burial will be in Carbondale Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by an Army honor detail. Bill will lie in state from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church, where family visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the William “Bill” Duncan Memorial, a fund to be used for Carbondale community improvement, and sent in care of State Bank of Carbondale, 530 Main, Carbondale, Kan. 66414. Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame is in charge of arrangements.

Joe and family,

I didn't know your dad very well, but what I have heard from Gator and Ed, he was a wonderful man, and has touched a lot of peoples lives. I drew his blood a couple times at the VA hospital. I remember Bill as a neighbor and and friend and as a good policeman. He was there when we needed him. I felt safer knowing he was in the next block from me. He will be missed. God bless you Sandy.
