Charme' Ewalt Smoot

Charme' Ewalt Smoot, 94, of Carlisle, Ky., died May 24, 2013 at Nicholas County Hospital in Carlisle.
Daughter of the late Sam R. and Nida Fisher Ewalt, she was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Bourbon County, Ky.
She married Eugene Bradshaw Smoot on April 19, 1938. He preceded her in death Dec. 24, 2004.
She attended Ruddles Mills School and was a graduate of Paris High School. She studied nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a member of Carlisle Christian Church for more than 70 years where she was a member of the Broadcasters Sunday School Class.
She was a life member of the Miranda Homemakers of Nicholas County and past board member of Southern States Cooperative in Carlisle.
Survivors include a daughter, Nida Ann (Doug) Fryman of Carlisle; a son, John Nicholas (Lorrain) Smoot of Millersburg, Ky.; seven grandchildren, the Rev. Grant (Cathy) Mathes of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Kathy Dawn (Darrell) Myers of Carlisle, Dr. Randy Smoot of Campbellsville, Sara Hurst (Steven) Plummer of Lexington, Cynthia (Karl) Warner of Richmond, Ky., Jennie (Todd) Gardner of Carlisle, and Anna (Chuck) Insko of Paris, Ky.; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Wilson Mathes.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Jean (Wilson) Mathes on April 24, 2004; and a sister, Anna Lee Chanslor.
Services and celebration of life was Wednesday, May 29, at Carlisle Christian Church on Locust Street in Carlisle. The Revs. Grant Mathes and Steve Smith officiated.
Burial was in Carlisle Cemetery.
Casket bearers were John N. Smoot, Franklin Caswell Jr., Ronald Chanslor, Ewell "Bud" Lyons, Kathy Dawn Myers, the Rev. Grant Mathes and Dr. Randy Smoot.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Sonshine Sisters of Carlisle Christian Church or Ruddles Mills Christian Church in Paris, KY 40361.
