I met Alan long ago, when he was one of my Brookline, MA neighbors. He loved nursing and was dedicated to his patients. That was in the early 1980s. Those who are interested in seeing exactly where he lived can email me, and I can send you a pic. Later, he moved to New Orleans, and as I had a friend there, I visited the friend and met up with Alan. He loved the south. By chance I was in Jackson, MS in 2007 and 2008 but didn't know Alan was there with his family, too. He moved to the south in 1981 and the last I saw of him, but he remained one of the good guys in my memory. I am sorry I didn't see this obit until recently - sometimes the people you know only briefly stay in your thoughts. My condolences to Alan's family and all his near and dear ones. May his memory be a blessing.

Alan was the kindest, well mannered, sophisticated, sensitive person I have ever met. I do hope he had a happy and fulfilling life with whoever he shared his life. Will add a photo if anyone would like to see?
