Grant O. Green

Grenada

Grant Oakes Green, 28, of Grenada, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014. He was born September 11, 1985 to John Grady Green, Sr. and Karen Oakes Green.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harris and Norene W. Oakes and Frances and Grady Green; his aunt, Dianne Wagner; and his family's lifelong nurse, Caroline Hurd.

He is survived by his parents; sister, Meredith G. Gamble (Hugh) of Alexandria, VA; brother, John G. Green, Jr. of Washington, D.C.; his nephew, Hugh Gamble IV; his uncle, Tom Wagner of Youngstown, OH; his cousin, Loren Palermo (Matt) of New Kensington, PA; his best friends, Milton and Murphy H. Fletcher of Asheville, NC; his girlfriend, Alexandra Katzen of Richmond, VA; along with many special friends from Northwestern University, Chicago, Gambit Trading, Darden and Grenada.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 27, 2014 beginning at 10:00 am, preceded and followed by a gathering with friends and family beginning at 9:00 am until noon at Troy Ranch, 1900 Pea Ridge Rd., Grenada, MS.

Grant attended Grenada Public Schools and finished high school at the Mississippi School of Mathematics and Science. He earned a Bachelor's degree in communications from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. After working several years as a fixed income derivatives trader at Gambit Trading in Chicago, IL, he attended the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. He obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration in 2013. Grant was very close to his family and was a director in their family business. He loved the Darden School of Business, UVA, and Charlottesville, VA.

Grant was an avid lover of nature and adventure. He climbed Mount Rainer with his brother John, regularly skied and snowboarded with his friends and family, explored Mammoth Cave with his Gambit trading friends, and camped all across Southern California with his close friend Milton.

He never met a dog that he did not love and spent significant time on his trips home with his family's seven dogs.

Grant loved knowledge and devoured books on literature, philosophy, science, and theory.

He was a young man of many talents, including the arts. He excelled at quick thinking and improvisation. He developed his skills through Second City improvisation classes in Chicago, IL.

At age nine, he learned to fly his father's airplane and was an enthusiastic pilot ever since. On the first day he was old enough to formally obtain his pilot's certification, he became a licensed aviator.

Memorials may be made to In Defense of Animals, 3010 Kerner Blvd, San Rafael, CA 94901 (Hope Animal Sanctuary) and to Darden School Foundation, P.O. Box 7726, Charlottesville, VA 22906 (In Memory of Grant Green).

Garner-Harper Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
