Welcome home soldier. My mother's first husband was shot down over Germany and as such, it was never possible for him to be returned home to the US. Thank you for your service and sacrifice for our country.

As a child born in the 50's I was able to enjoy the rewards of a great life earned by brave men like Sam Smith, who gave their life at a young age defending America. My dad was a Marine in WWII and he raised me to respect the people who died serving our country. So how do I repay PFC Samuel Smith, my dad lived to be 92 and Sam died in 1943. I know what he gave up. How can I repay him, how,by respecting his sacrifice and giving thanks when you can to their family. Thanks for taking the time to place the article in the paper, I just wish I could tell Sam thanks. God bless America and God Bless the Smith family.

Thank you Sir for your service and sacrifice for our great Country! So proud of you and our many other military members (living and deceased)! I didn't know you or your family, but I do have family members who have served in the past and one who is presently serving (some were Marines, others have been Army, Air Force, etc. my ex father-in-law was a WWII Veteran as were my current, but now deceased mother and father-in-laws). I heard and remember all their stories of the war and other wars they were all in as well. Not an easy thing to do, being a soldier during a war, God Bless you! May your family find some comfort in your final homecoming! Rest In Peace! Be at peace with God and may God be with your family and bring them peace. After so long, your bodily remains have finally made it home; although your soul made it Home long ago in Heaven! Amen!

A very nice tribute to this young man. I appreciate his sacrifice. I don't know any of his family, but my mother was from Liberty, and Mr. Smith's obituary caught my eye.

I read this obituary because Mr. Smith's picture reminded me so much of my deceased father-in-law, who also fought so bravely during WWII, to provide the freedoms we still enjoy today. What a beautiful tribute to a courageous and honorable man. Welcome home, Mr. Smith, and rest in peace.
