Jobe Curtis Obituary

Jobe N. Curtis, Jr

Madison

Jobe Newton Curtis, Jr. passed from this earth into the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ Friday, December 16 at his beloved home on Christmas Lane. Born on August 4, 1924 in Hardy, MS, Jobe was predeceased by his mother, Thelma Weeks Curtis and father, Jobe Newton Curtis; his wife, Olive Anne Woodward Curtis; his brother, Henry Dean Curtis; and his son Jobe Newton Curtis III.

Jobe is survived by his brother, Pat H. (Helen) Curtis; children Carla (Ted) Dearman, Cindy (Danny) McDonald, Cathy (Larry) O'Kelly; grandchildren Chase Dearman, Caine Dearman, Taylor Dearman, Joey Shepard, Derek Shepard, Dymin Everett, Austin O'Kelly, Skylar O'Kelly, Daylin O'Kelly; fourteen, soon to be fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jobe, at age 92, lived a long life filled with love, experiences, family, friends, travel and service. A graduate of Mississippi State, Jobe began his love of flying while serving his country as a WW II B-17 bomber pilot. After the war he continued his passion of flying piloting numerous airplanes on business and pleasure trips. He also flew an aerobatic airplane, which he owned, thrilling his children on flights of loops and stunts.

After his service in the war Jobe started work at Jackson Stone Company. Through much hard work and discipline he became an owner and led the Company profitably for many years before retiring. Countless buildings in the Jackson area and beyond are clad in beautiful Architectural pre-cast concrete produced under Jobe's direction.

An avid outdoorsman, Jobe bred Beagles for field trial competition producing a champion bloodline and winning many field trials among his friends at the Pearl River Beagle Club. He loved dove hunting and fishing with his uncle, Shed Weeks and the gang of retired servicemen and business owners.

Jobe loved travel and once toured Alaska and Canada in a Kodiak float plane. He was a huge fan of Broadway and traveled to New York every year to see the latest plays.

Jobe loved Christmas. He named his property and retirement home 'Christmas' and usually had two or three Christmas trees year round in his home.

Above all else, Jobe dearly loved and doted on his three daughters. Cathy, Carla and Cindy faithfully cared for Jobe and looked after his interests in the sunset years of his life.

Jobe was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson and later First Baptist Curch in Madison which faithfully ministered to him at home.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19 with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon at Natchez Trace Funeral Home, 759 Highway 51, Madison, MS.

So sorry about Mr. Curtis. This is a voice from his past. We are Curtis Stewart and Sherley Stewart Moore, two of the children of Otho L. Stewart of O.L. Stewart Trucking. Mr. Curtis stayed in our home when he first came to Jackson to work for our father at the trucking company. We still remember him and had visited with him some in recent years. He will be missed.
