John Shields Obituary

John Garold Shields, Sr., 86 died Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at MS State Veterans Home in Jackson.
Visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2010, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 342 W. Main Street in Florence from 5-8 p.m. Services will be on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Shields Family Cemetery on Beaver Creek Road in Richland.
A veteran of the US Air Force, Mr. Shields was active in politics, and in NALC, National Association of Letter Carriers Labor Union. He was a Boy Scout Master and served as PTA President. He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is preceded in death by his son, Lewie K. Shields; brothers, Charles J. Shields and William L. Shields; and a sister, Zellbe Jorgenson.
He is survived by his wife, Germiece Shields of Richland; sons: John G. Shields, Jr., MD of West Point, Al Shields of Richland, Steven D. Shields of Richland, and Douglas Tadd Shields of Salt Lake City, Utah, Rod Shields, MD of Florence,; daughters: Crystal McFarland of Dallas, TX and Cindy Dean of Richland; 27 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Shields family,
As patients of Dr. Rod's, my husband and I were so sorry to hear of the death of Mr. Shields. We did not know your dad, but as patients of Rod's, we know what a caring and sweet person he is as well as Ms Cindy. I am sorry to hear about your lost. Johnny was a good man. My mom(Connie Bishop Kemp) thought alot of him. He use to come visit with her all the time before she went to be with the Lord. My prayers are with all of you.
