Kay Frances Ward Saunders

Bolton - Kay Frances Ward Saunders was born on March 21, 1932 in Bolton, MS to the late Joseph Winston and Juanita Synal Ward. She passed from this life on June 8, 2018. Kay was the second oldest of eight siblings. Kay was a graduate of Lanier High School in Jackson, received her undergraduate degree in education from Jackson College and a master's degree in education from Saint Mary's of the Springs College, Columbus Ohio.

Kay received her first teaching position in Greenville, MS. While in Greenville she met the love of her life, Titus, to whom she was married for almost 63 years. Following their marriage, Kay moved to southern Georgia and continued her teaching career. After relocating to Ohio Kay was hired by the Columbus Public School system. She taught at Champion Junior High before moving to East High School (EHS) where she spent the majority of her teaching career. While at EHS, she became the Chairman of the English Department and Chairman of the National Honor Society.

Kay leaves behind her husband Titus of Jackson, MS; her sons Duane Saunders of Columbus, OH; Darryl Saunders of Jackson, MS; DeVaughn Saunders of Columbus, OH; and Derek (Zula) Saunders of Columbus, OH. She also leaves to cherish her memory her grandson Dakotah.

Kay also leaves behind: Shirley Ward of Clinton, MS; Joeneta Buckner of Carson, CA; Walter (Harriett) Ward of Bolton, MS; Minister Charles (Janice) Ward of Jackson, MS; Ministers Thomas (Mary) Ward of Bolton, MS; Minister Maurice Ward of Clinton, MS. Kay also leaves behind aunts, Gladys Banks of Los Angeles, CA; Candace Ward of Kansas City, KS; Florida Ward of Long Beach, CA; an uncle, Curtis Ward of Los Angeles, CA, as well as over 100 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.

Kay was preceded in death by her brother Horace Ward, sister Mae Catherine Jackson, brother-in-law Cleveland Buckner, sister-in-law Elizabeth Ward, brother-in-law Oree Jackson, and sister-in-law Carolyn Ward.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas MB Church, 4699 St. Thomas Rd, Bolton, MS. There will be a family hour on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home at 3580 Robinson St, Jackson, MS.
