Larry Hollingsworth Obituary

Larry David Hollingsworth

Raymond - Larry David Hollingsworth passed away February 7, 2018. Larry was born January 3, 1951 and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. Larry had an amazing talent for making people feel special. He will be missed by all that knew him, from his story telling talents to his booming laughter. Larry was avid outdoorsman and loved spending time on the ocean. Larry loved to fish and hunt, particularly with his son, Prent. His ability to make everybody feel at home and his love of history led to a lifelong career in hospitality. He is most proud of revitalizing historic hotels. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Burch Hollingsworth, and his son, William Prentice Hollingsworth, and his sister, Linda Vaughn of Gallatin, TN. Larry is also survived by a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Gene Hollingsworth, his mother, Elena Pistrui Hollingsworth, his father-in-law, W. Clyde Burch, his mother-in-law, Sophie Klancar Burch, uncle Don G. Hollingsworth and his nephew, Jason Michael Goodwin.

Visitation for Larry will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood, MS from 10:00am to 11:00am with service following at 11:00am.

To Prent and Nancy, my deepest condolences for your loss! If ever I can do anything go either of you ... Larry Hollingsworth you have been missed by many in Louisville Kentucky! Man did you ever make your mark on this town! You taught me so much as President of john conti Coffee Company. The best memory from my time with you was our trip to Nashville. We worked the local market and you showed me your Dads school, we had dinner at the place he use to take you as kid. You challenged all of your managers and I benifitted from that and made a great friend from it! God speed Larry and absolute peace upon you!

Mr. H is the best hotel GM I ever worked for. The Seelbach had its best run under his leadership, taking the Oakroom to 5 Diamond status! You will be missed my friend

I learned so much about leadership from Larry at the Seelbach Hilton, in Louisville. So many wonderful memories working together: trusting me to take the lead on a Presidential visit, sending me home on Derby Eve because I smashed my hand in the retractable wall after a shot of Pappy, 9-11 catastrophe: handled it with professionalism and provided calmness to the insanity, helped me through the loss of a dear friend. He was one of kind, he put friends and family first, he will be missed.

I went to Grammar and Hillsboro High School with Larry, such a long time ago... I recall his attributes as a Leader and Athlete, and very popular among his colleagues, a friendly and jovial man, well respected. May the Lord watch over you Larry.

Larry and I worked together in Nashville and in Florida. He was a good friend. I was shocked to hear of his passing. Rest in peace Larry.

I am so saddened to hear of Larry's passing. He was a special guy - always a ready smile, a positive word, a glass half full person. My heart goes out to all his family - you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Sherrie Mason Andrews, HHS Class of 1969

Larry did me one of the great favors of my life. I was out for freshman football at Hillsboro and the second day of practice we scrimmaged the JV. I played outside linebacker. Larry came out of the backfield to block me. He walloped me in the head. I turned in my uniform at the end of practice before someone really messed me up. He had such a smile on his face. Definitely a welcome to the big leagues smile! I will see him in paradise and thank him. I had no business playing football! Love and peace to the family and friends! Larry, the principal's son, sure was a great character!

My deepest sympathy to Nancy and Prent. Larry will be missed, but not forgotten, by his many friends. His Father was my elementary school principal, at Julia Green. I was shocked to read of his death, as he was always so full of life. Prayers! Harriet Priest
