Marjorie Wingo Murray of Brandon passed from this life to eternity on December 5, 2012. She was born in Ripley, Mississippi, on October 14, 1925. She retired with over 30 years as a school teacher having taught typing, accounting and shorthand at Brandon High School for most of that time. She graduated from Falkner High School and attended Blue Mountain College before getting her bachelor degree in education from Ole Miss. She received her Masters in Education from Mississippi College.

She was a resident of Brandon for over 50 years and active in the Brandon Historical Society. She was a recipient of the Murphy Adkins Community Service Award for her outstanding commitment and contributions to Brandon. Marjorie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and instrumental in establishing the Chief Red Jacket Chapter in Brandon in 1978, serving as the first Chapter regent. She was also involved with the DAR on a statewide level. She was a member of the Magna Carte Dames, First Families of Virginia and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was an active member of Brandon Baptist Church prior to her residency at Heritage House at Castlewoods where she received excellent care.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Murry Wingo and Mary Duncan Wingo, her husband of 54 years Gayle Murray, and her son Robert Murray. She is survived by her sister Faye Wildman of St. Petersburg, FL, her son Lynn Murray of Brandon and his wife Connie, four grandchildren, Katherine, Samuel, Keely and Elliot, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 9 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services will be on Monday, December 10 at Brandon Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., with a brief period of visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church before the service. Burial will follow at Brandon Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Robert Blount, Michael Cooper, Chet Crum, Bruce Leach, Elliot Long and Samuel Murray.

The family expresses their appreciation to Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland for their exceptional and loving care in assisting in her final struggles with dementia and pancreatic cancer. Also appreciated are the numerous friends who visited with her at Heritage House and Hospice Ministries. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland or the Brandon Baptist Church building fund are suggested.

When I worked for Premier Printing over 20 years ago, Mrs. Murray would bring in the DAR booklet to be printed. I still have a Rosalie commemorative saucer she gave me. She was a very special lady.
