Mark Blackburn Obituary
Jackson
Mark Wayne Blackburn has passed away after an extended illness on April 11th, 2014. He was born on December 18th, 1936 in Jackson, MS to Margaret Bynum Blackburn and Dr. Estes M. Blackburn. He attended Power Elementary, Bailey Junior High, and Jackson Central High School class of 1955. He graduated from the University of Mississippi and Northwestern University School of Dentistry. Dr. Blackburn served 2 years of active duty on the Navy and 10 years in the Navy Reserve. He returned to Jackson to setup a dental practice with his father. He was past president of the Mississippi Dental Association, the Guardian Society of the University Medical Center and the Dental Alumni Chapter at UMC. Dr. Blackburn was a member of the American College of Dentists, the American Academy of Dental Practice Administration and was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Dr. Blackburn is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn, 3 sons, Tim (Renee), Chris, and George (Siw). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Lauren Bondurant (Morgan), Hailey, Benedikte, Annika, Riley, Victor and Estes Blackburn and one great- grandson, Sidney Morgan Bondurant. Dr. Blackburn is also survived by his brother, Estes "Skip" Blackburn (Judy).
Visitation will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Monday, April 14th, 2014 from 9 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39216.

Marilyn and family,
I was shocked and very saddened to hear about Mark. I guess I thought we would all live forever. I have so many wonderful memories and will remember his smile and sweet personality. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

My sincere condolences on your loss of Dr. Blackburn. He was my first and favorite dentist, from the time I sprouted my first teeth. He made my time in his chair an experience to anticipate, and I will always be grateful for his joy and wonderful care. His love for his patients was always obvious. When I was at Ole Miss, I remember telling my Dad (Howard John DDS) I was going out with George and he said "Is that Dr. Blackburn's son! Well I know he comes from good stock. Dr. Blackburn is a good man and a fine dentist." Sending my condolences to George and the Blackburn family.
