Mary Dafferner Obituary

Mary Alice Dafferner

Jackson - Mary Dafferner passed away on September 25, 2018 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2 pm to 4 pm with a funeral service to follow at Lakewood Funeral Home.

Mary was born on April 18, 1919 in Yazoo City, MS. She attended school at Yazoo City High School and MSCW. After graduating from MSCW, she moved to Knoxville TN and worked for TVA where she met her husband Roy Dafferner. They married on May 9, 1942 in Jackson, MS and resided in Jackson until moving to Riggs Manor in Raymond, MS.

She worked for several federal government agencies and retired from General Service Administration. After retiring, she and her husband Roy became Winter Texans. Every year they would go to Mercedes, Texas in October or November and stay until the following April. They made friends with many other Winter Texans from all over the US and Canada. Even after Roy passed away she continued to go to Texas. Mary Alice never met a stranger. If new people came to the park she was always one of the first to welcome them. Hobbies she enjoyed were Quilting, painting and woodcarving.

Mary is preceded in death by husband, Roy; parents, Charlie Smith Bennett and Daisy Peaster Bannett; brother, Charles Noblin Bennett. She is survived by daughter, Judy Fontenot (David); son, Charles "Jack" Dafferner; son, Jerry Dafferner (Laine); daughter, Jan Bailey (Bill); grandchildren, Steve Pittman, JJ Dafferner and Justin Hargon; great grandchildren, Hanna, Skylar, Joshua, Ashton and Jaysia.

Judy, I just read about your mother's passing and wanted to extend my heartfelt sympathy. I'll always remember her positive, outgoing personality. Also, I'll never forget that wonderful Halloween Horror House that she and your dad set up in your garage when we were kids! She and my mom (who passed last year) always enjoyed visiting in our old neighborhood. I imagine they are catching up now! We're blessed with many dear memories for sure. Know that I have you in my thoughts and prayers. May God comfort you and your family as only He can. Love, Donnie
