Mary Dockery Obituary

Mary Yonkers Dockery

Clinton - Mary Yonkers Dockery, age 68, went home to be with her Lord on November 25, 2017. Mary was born in Clinton, Mississippi in 1949 to Irving and Florence Yonkers.

She became a believer at the young age of three and throughout her life grew in her love, devotion, knowledge, and service to her Lord. She graduated from Clinton High School and Mississippi College. While in college, she served as a counselor at Lake Forest Ranch in the summers. She taught for several decades in the Hinds County and Jackson Public Schools.

Throughout her life, Mary worked with her father in Southland Ministries, and she worked with Dr. and Mrs. W.S. Beardshaw in the Raymond Good News Bible Club and later became its Director. She had a compassion for others to know Christ and grow in His Word. As an outgrowth of her love for the Lord, she responded to the needs of others.

She was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Jackson, Mississippi where she met a young man named David T. Dockery, III. They, through their love for the Lord and each other, recognized God had brought them together. They became one in marriage in 1982. They were married for 35 loving years at the time of Mary's death.

Mary and David became members of Pocahontas Baptist Church. Mary served her Lord in various positions and supported David in his leadership responsibilities. Mary loved her church and prayed earnestly for the church, its members, and pastors.

Mary was deeply loved by her family...her husband, David, brothers Robert (Bob) and Charles, sisters Ida and Terrell, and their families. She was such a gracious individual and always loved us through difficult circumstances, encouraging us to new heights and forgiving us when needed. In our devastation and grief, we are uplifted because we know she is with her Lord. We as believers know this world is not our home; we're just a passin' through. We thank God for Mary's life and the example she was and will continue to be as we remember her. Her life spoke for her what she can now not say.

Visitation will be from 12:00 - 1:00 pm with service following at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Pocahontas Baptist Church, 4200 Kickapoo Rd. north of Clinton, Mississippi. Burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dockery was one of the best teachers I've ever had at any level. It was in her class that I learned how to take detailed notes of subject matter (History). She was sincere and taught in earnest, obviously caring that students had their opportunity to learn and go forward in life. Rest In Peace to a fine Lady and excellent Teacher.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to family and friends for the lost of their beloved Mary. I hope the promise at John 6:39 can bring real comfort. Knowing that there is hope for our lost love ones can be reassuring.

To Mr Dockery and family:
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. I knew Mary from Jackson Public Schools, my name is Engia Smith. I worked in Human Resources. When she would come to the office, we would usually have a good chat, I grew to love and appreciate her a lot. She would always express her love for the children. Mary was humble, sweet and kind. She was beautiful both inside and out. It is amazing, I was thinking of her a few weeks ago. I will miss her not being with us.

Love and Prayers,
Engia Smith

She was a very influential teacher in my life. One of my favorites. I am honored to have sat in her 4th grade class and experience her loving kindness and passion for helping others. Rest In Paradise, Mrs. Dockery.

To the Yonkers and Dockery families. I am so saddened by your loss. Mary and I were in the same class at Clinton High School. I considered her as one of my good friends although we had lost touch in college. Mary was always the sweetest and kindest, most Godly young person. She will be sorely missed by those people whose lives she touched. The many people at the service and visitation certainly speaks volumes about how well Mary was loved, just as she loved others.
David, it was a pleasure to meet you and to see Mary again at the high school class reunion. Thank you for sharing your pictures with us. It is obvious from them that you two have been very happy together.
God comfort you and keep you in His care,

She was one of the most beloved of my teachers in Junior High in Raymond in the late 70's. Her life was her testimony. I am so sorry for your loss but rejoice that she is with her Lord and Savior.

I remember her as sweet Ms.Yonkers. She helped me to pay for vacation bible school for many summers. She also brought cookies and juice to us every Saturday at bible class. She would sing to us as she played her instrument. She taught us that love has no color. The world has truly lost an angel. My sincerest condolences to the family. Mrs. Mary was a wonderful person to be around. She makes people laugh and people feel welcomed especially when Mrs. Mary and her sister Terrell Yonkers start bible class on Saturday mornings and the children comes in the building and takes their seats and would be ready for Mrs. Terrell and Mrs. Mary to teach the lessons in the mornings. And after bible class is over, Mrs. Mary would have Mrs. Terrell take a picture of all of the students who had came to bible class and keeps the photo for perfect attendance. Mrs. Mary was everybody's favorite person to talk to and hang around. Mrs. Mary always helps others with schoolwork or anything you asked her to help you with she would help you. Mrs. Mary would be truely missed.

David, Jim and I are thinking of you and your family during this time of sorrow. She will be so missed - her legacy being all of the love and caring she gave to those in need. Especially her work with the Good News Bible Club in Raymond. People often value life as to how much money they have saved. Mary valued life as to how many lives she saved by sharing God's word. The peace of the Lord be with all of you. Becky & Jim Drake

Reposes en paix Mary.
Nous sommes effondrés. Nous avons fêté notre
67ème anniversaire...

I am so thankful I was given the opportunity to get to know Ms. Mary over this past year through the Bible Club. My life was forever changed after walking through the doors of that small building and encountering the love of Ms. Mary, Ms. Terrell, and Ms. Joy.

Our hears are sad for our loss, the loss in our Raymond community, and for those sweet children they ministered to every Saturday but we know Ms. Mary is home today with the Lord she so faithfully served.

We are praying for Ms. Mary's immediate family as you go through this difficult time. Thank you for sharing your sweet Mary with us.
