Mary Ryan was the most warm, funny, caring, intelligent, thoughtful, loyal friend that anyone could ask for and I feel so fortunate to have been given the gift of her friendship. It is too difficult to choose the words to describe how the world will miss her most. I am hopeful that Mary Ryan's family and friends will find peace in His presence. I am thinking of you and praying for you every day. My heart goes out to Alex, Walter, Carolyn, Meme, the Bottger's and the George's.

As children, Mary Ryan and I were always placed next to each other in line or in class at Collegiate as we were often organized alphabetically. I remember we competed to see who was the taller since we were the two shortest in the class! I am saddened to learn of her passing and my sincere condolences to all her family.

Mary Ryan and I were counselors together in McCall, my last year at Camp Lachlan. I giggled more that summer than any other I think. I can't imagine any Lachlan experience without Mary Ryan and big sis, Fleming. What a special girl. My thoughts and prayers are with the Bottger/George/and extended families. I wish you comfort and peace in the weeks and months to come. xo...

One who expressed her kindness
In helping others feel better,
Ever a smile no matter the troubles
No sitting back. A real go-getter!

Did our Father “take” your Mary?
No! But only He can make the correction
By his most beautiful of provisions
Thru his son Jesus--the resurrection.

A mother so concerned about her children.
Won’t Mary appreciate the beauty?
Of a cleansed new earth. How picturesque!
No more sickness, crime or misery.

Permanently, youthful, healthy flesh
That’s why God’s Kingdom must come to earth.
This is the life he originally intended.
Obey God to see your own and Mary’s rebirth?

Mary Ryan has always been one of my most memorable Lachlan friends. I will forever cherish the time we spent those summers. She brought so much joy and laughter, as someone always so full of life. I am praying God will grant you peace and comfort during this time.

August 27, 2008

I am also a part of Mary Ryan's Lachlan family and though I was much younger, I vividly remember her going out of her way to make my first summer really wonderful. I have never forgotten how cool I thought I was when she whisked me away from an activity to catch and deliver a frog to one of the Buzzards. To a nine year old, it was as cool as it gets. When I became a counselor, I modeled my work after Mary Ryan's loving spontaneity. She taught that the best way to love someone is to include them in laughter. To her family, please know that Mary Ryan's spirit is reflected in all of her Lachlan sisters and that we send our love to each of you.

I will always think of laughter and fun times when I think of Mary Ryan. A couple weeks ago a group of girls were lucky enough to spend a weekend with Mary Ryan in Florida while celebrating the upcoming wedding of our mutual friend Nell Custis. I think of that weekend and am reminded of how much fun Mary Ryan had, how much she laughed (and made us laugh), and how she spoke so lovingly of her family. I will remember her as a joyful and fun loving spirit. I will miss her, but will cherish the happy memories.
