Mary A. Jenkins

Jackson

Mary Applewhite Jenkins, 71, joined her Heavenly Father, Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at St. Dominic Hospital. Visitation is Friday, February 11, 2011 from 7-8 p.m. at Westhaven Funeral Home in Jackson, MS. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. Burial to follow at Garden Memorial Cemetery. Rev. A. L. Barnes will be officiating the services.

She was born on March 27, 1939 in Blackhawk, MS to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Applewhite. She was a long time resident of Jackson, MS. She retired from Baptist Medical Center after 21 years of employment. Cooking was one of her passions. After retirement, she would often share her love of cooking with Waffle House as a part-time employee. At the time of her death, she was employed by Dr. Maria Rappai, and previously by Dr. Joyce Wade as their private nanny.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Willie Jenkins, Jr.; four brothers, Jack Applewhite, Sam Applewhite, William Henry Applewhite, and Johnnie Applewhite; one sister, Carol Lee Bolden.

Survivors include Frank Jenkins, Jackson, MS; Dwayne Jenkins, Indianapolis, IN; Willie Jenkins III, Houston, TX; Patricia Ann Washington, Jackson, MS; Melvin Jenkins, Good Year, AZ; Margurite Charleston, Terry, MS; Perida Brown, Jackson, MS; Anthony Sanders, Jackson, MS; Tracey Jenkins Costello, Union City, NJ; Ronald Jenkins, Houston, TX; five sisters, Martha (twin) Pace, Chicago, IL; Eva Blackmon, Jackson, MS; Annie Bates, St. Louis, MO; Callie King, Brandon, MS; and Naomi Kency, Jackson, MS; three brothers, Percy Applewhite, Clarence Applewhite and Abraham (AB) Applewhite, all of Blackhawk, MS; a special Goddaughter, Jacqueline Whalen, Jackson, MS; five sister-in-laws, Nellie Applewhite, Winona, MS; Mary Margaret Taylor, Jackson, MS; Rose Applewhite, Hartford, CT; Jewel Applewhite and Louise Applewhite, both of Blackhawk, MS; one uncle, Kenny Lee Davenport, Jackson, MS; a special aunt, Ethel Veal, Jackson, MS; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
