Mattie Shaw Obituary

Mrs. Mattie Dawkins Shaw, 102, of Coffeeville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Yalobusha General Nursing Home in Water Valley.
Mrs. Shaw was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeeville and held a Lifetime Teacher's Certificate from the Delta Teacher's College. She was born May 27, 1908 in Yalobusha County to Thomas Hosea Henry Mayhew McSwaine Dawkins and Nancy Emmaline Harbour Dawkins.
Funeral services will be held today at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville with Rev. Truman Scarborough and Rev. Rick Glidewell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Yalobusha County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Survivors include a son, Tax Assessor Guy Dale Shaw of Yalobusha County; daughters, Mary Charlene Torbert (Bob) of Nashville, TN and Dorothy Nan Rickett of Columbus, MS; nine grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tax Assessor Guy C. Shaw; daughter, Mattie Laucene Clements; grandchildren, Diane Adele Shaw and Guy Andrew (Andy) Shaw; sister, Mary D. Fielder (Bill); and brothers, Harmon Dawkins (Pearl) and Hosea Dawkins (Mary).
Pallbearers will be Billy Dean Fielder, Jim Waddell, Dave Hovey, Rob Torbert, Jim Stafford and Bubba Shaw. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Dawkins, Charles Dawkins, William Fielder, Mark Torbert and Mike Clements.
Garner-Harper Funeral Home of Coffeeville (662-675-8704) has been entrusted with arrangements.
