Mauricio Alegria Obituary
Mauricio Alberto Alegria, 77, beloved husband, brother, friend, uncle, father and grandfather, passed away June 25, 2017. The funeral will be at St. Richards Catholic Church in Jackson on Friday, June 30. Visitation will be at 9:30 am and the service will follow at 10:30 am.
Mauricio was born on March 27, 1940 and grew up in El Salvador. He completed high school in Nicaragua, then attended Michigan State University where he began his career as a professor. The bulk of his career was at Jackson State University, where he taught in the Foreign Language Department for 30 years. He was a passionate teacher who made a positive impact on all he encountered, both in the classroom and out.
Mauricio is now with his beloved wife, Alexia. He is survived by his daughters Elizabeth and Maggy, along with their husbands Mathew and Chris. He was a proud grandfather of Hazel and Russell, who will always remember him as their "Lito."
The family wishes to thank everyone who has supported them during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

So sorry to learn of the passing of my friend Mauricio. He and I were friends at MI State U during the mid-60s, but lost touch after that. We had many good times together, and I have thought of him often. Que en paz descanses!

Dear Elizabeth and Maggy, We were so sorry to hear that Mauricio had died. He was a good friend for many years. I remember all the fun we used to have with him and Lex going to Ameristar with our two rolls of nickles each. In those days you put the nickles in the machine and pulled the handle down! If you won, all the nickles came shooting out the bottom... After that we had a delicious crab dinner and spent hours talking! Fun times!
