Dr. Mitchell Berry Wells

Canton

Dr. Mitchell Berry Wells, DDS, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015, at his home in Canton, Mississippi, at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Patricia Moore Wells, and his parents, Dr. Charles Mitchell and Nancy Elizabeth Berry Wells. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Wells Sterling (Wayne), and son, Maxwell Mitchell Wells, both of Canton. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Patricia Sterling of Frederick, Maryland; Rachel Stone (Robert) of Richmond, Virginia; John Sterling (Cassie) of Mesa, Arizona; Madison Wells and Graham Wells, both of Canton. His sister Jean Wells Parker of Gainesville, Florida, and three nephews also survive him.

He was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi on January 20, 1923. At the age of seven, his family relocated to Canton where his father opened a dental practice. Dr. Wells attended Canton Public Schools and graduated high school from Gulf Coast Military Academy in 1940. He attended Millsaps College and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Emory University. He served in the United States Navy in World War II, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger as a dentist. Later he retired with the rank of Commander from the Naval Reserve. After leaving active military service in 1946, he returned to Canton and joined his father's dental practice, retiring in 1990. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Canton. He was an avid reader, amateur gardener, and devoted family man.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The MIND Center, University of Mississippi Medical Center; 2500 N. State Street; Jackson, MS, 39216 or to your favorite charity.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Breeland Funeral Home from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm and again on Friday from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm chapel service. Burial will be in the Canton Cemetery.
