,She was preceded in death by her husband, W.B. Meek
"Miss Patsy" was born in Laurel, MS on August 28, 1928, to John Travis and Eva McBride Haynes both of Ellisville, MS. Patsy's childhood was spent in Ellisville before attending the University of Mississippi where she received her undergraduate degree in education. While attending Ole Miss, Patsy was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and a campus favorite. She was also a beauty at Ole Miss and had her picture on one of the Ole Miss magazines.
At Ole Miss she met "Buck" Meek and they fell in love. They were married on June 26, 1949, in the Methodist Church in Ellisville. When they left Ole Miss, the Meeks moved to Houston, MS, where they resided for about a year. They then moved back to Eupora, Buck's home town, where they resided for many years and raised their family.
Later, Patsy received her Master's Degree in Reading from Mississippi State University. She was a fifth grade reading teacher in the Webster County School District for many years. She taught the fifth grade at both Mathiston Elementary and Eupora Elementary. Her love for her students and success as a teacher is remembered by her many students who still speak most fondly of her.
Patsy was active in social clubs in Eupora, including Jaycettes and 20th Century Club. She served as President of both those organizations on more than one occasion. Patsy was also an active member of the Eupora Garden Club. She so loved to work in her yard and flower beds, which always looked wonderful. She often boasted that the Lord had given her a green thumb.
Patsy was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Eupora. "Miss Patsy" served as the first United Methodist Church Librarian and was the Sunday School Teacher for the Wesley Bible Class for many years. She was director in the United Methodist Women for many years. Patsy initiated the acolyte program in the Eupora Methodist Church and it was developed through her love for children and her church. Her love for the lord was evident in her service in the church and community.
Patsy and Buck were world travelers. Together they visited many parts of the world and saw many exotic sights. She could recall and enjoyed remembering her many travels with her sweetheart.
Patsy has many, many friends who for years enjoyed her gracious company. She never seemed to meet a stranger.
Patsy's main work and pleasure was always in her home. She will always be remembered for her unselfish, committed love for her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She was completely dedicated to all of them without reservation and worked tirelessly for their welfare, comfort and success.
Survivors include three children, her daughter, Christine Meek Thrasher of Brandon; her son, Walter Buchanan Meek, Jr., and his wife, Jacqueline Meek, of Eupora; and her daughter, Joyce Meek Yates and her husband, Bill Yates, also of Eupora. Patsy is also survived by one sister, Annette Crosby of Bossier City, LA; one brother, Mac Haynes, of Ellisville, MS; and ten grandchildren, Melanie Steenwyk, Christopher Thrasher, Walter Buchanan Meek, III, Shann Meek McClellan, Arey Meek Herard, Emily Meek Conrad, Arthur Emmett Meek, Claire Yates Bailey, William Hilliard Yates, III, and Trent Meek Yates. Mrs. Meek is also survived by 16-grandchildren.
Her life will be celebrated at Eupora First United Methodist Church on Friday, February 29, 2008, with the Revs. Hershel Wiygul and Trey Harper officiating. Burial following at Eupora Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service will be Patsy's five grandsons, Walter Buchanan Meek, III, Arthur Emmett Meek, William Hilliard Yates, III, Trent Meek Yates, and Christopher Thrasher; and Willie B. Gary, the manager of Meek Farms.

I am so very sorry to hear of "Miss Patsy" dying. She was my 5th grade teacher at Eupora Elementary many years ago. It was that year she and Buck went to, I believe, Mexico. She brought a little ornamental Kiwi bird back for every single one of her students. I still have my little bird and think of "Miss Patsy" each time I see it. I always admired how "put together" she was each time I saw her. There was never a hair out of place and her shoes perfectly matched whatever stunning outfit she had on. I also admired the way she ALWAYS made every single student of hers feel special. She was never known to have a "teacher's pet" and made it a practice to include each one of us in whatever she was doing in class, whether it be putting away books, cleaning the chalkboard or taking down decorations. She made learning a fun experience by keeping her class interesting, again including all of the students.
Although I haven't seen "Miss Patsy" in many years, I will always remember her infectious smile and unique laugh. Most of all, I will remember and be forever thankful for the "love of a good book" she instilled in me at a young age. Thank you "Miss Patsy."
