In Scott County, Mississippi, whenever you mentioned Jackson State University (JSU), Mrs. Pearl Clark's name would be sure to follow. Mrs. Clark served as the JSU's Scott Alumni Chapter's President for many years. If there were to be JSU in the place, she rolled her sleeves up and worked diligently for the good of our university.
She had a very charismatic way in advising high school seniors to at least "consider" The Blu & White. She definitely influenced my decision, as I'm a proud 2006 Jackson State graduate.
A line of our school song states, "Thee I love my dear old college home." Mrs, Clark truly lived this line.
A JSU icon, Mrs. Clark will be missed.

Pearl Clark, a family friend passed on Wednesday. Her home going service was on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in my hometown of Forest, MS. Who was Pearl Clark? You could say she was, Mrs. Forest, Mississippi. A lady of class, respect and values. She was our neighbor for many years, and a friend longer. As a child I knew her as that " Pretty Lady." Later, she would become Mama's mentee and dear friend. As a college student, while I worked in our Six Cees' Store, Pearl was a daily fixture. She and her husband Bo, stopped by almost everyday, sporting the finest of clothes. I cherished her presence. The beautiful furs, the fancy outfits and jewelry, all came with great conversations, and free advice on how to wear this and that. She never held on to her compliments, making a college student wanna be just like her. She would become my fashion icon. Over the years when returning home, Pearl Clark was still the social elite. Although I sport crimson and cream, Pearl wore pink and green like no other. She spearheaded committees like the Hawkins Reunion and the Jackson State Alumni Association. Pearl called me while I was undergoing chemo; she never mentioned the fact that she too had been diagnosed. We continued to exchange gifts and phone calls over the next few years. Her latest was a box of fruit that was waiting on me when I had my last surgery. It was the best fruit I had ever eaten. I called to tell her how good it was and she laughingly said, "Girl, you know me." Yes I did know Pearl, she personified the best, the very best!
