Robert Langley Obituary

Robert Michael "Robbie" Langley, 30, died Saturday, October 23, 2006, at The Med in Memphis, TN. Services are 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts 100 University Ave. on the Campus of the University of MS in Oxford, MS. Interment will be held in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Batesville, MS. The Rev. Kevin Crofford & Rev. Barry Male will officiate. Wells Funeral Home of Batesville, MS in charge of arrangements.

Robert was employed with the University of Mississippi Police Dept. serving with the K-9 Unit and he was a U.S. Army Nation Guard Serviceman.

He joined Galloway United Methodist Church at the age of 12 years old, where he was very active in church activities. On January 30, 2005 he rededicated his life to the Lord at Sardis Lake Baptist Church in Batesville, MS.

Robert graduated from Madison Ridgeland Academy, Madison, MS in 1995. While he attended MRA he joined the ROTC. As a junior in high school he joined the MS. Army National Guard. He was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Robert played football and ran track while a student at MRA. While on the track team he won the State Championship in both the 100-meter dash and the high jump. Robert also was an avid soccer and baseball player.

After graduation he attended Valley Forge Military College in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania for one year, and then transferred to Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. At both Valley Forge and DSU he played football as a running back. Later, he received his mortuary science degree from Northwest Community College.

He was an avid bass fisherman and outdoorsman. Mr. Langley was musically inclined and could play any musical instrument.

Following a brief career in the funeral business, he went to work for the University of Mississippi Grounds Dept. for several years. In April of 2002 he began his career in law enforcement with the University of Mississippi Police Department. In February of 2005 he was called to active duty with the 114th Battalion from New Albany, MS. He served his country for 14 months in Afghanistan and upon returning back from the middle east he rejoined the U of M Police Dept. where he was then promoted to the K-9 Unit.

A distinguished honor of Robert s law enforcement career was being chosen to be the personal bodyguard for Prince Edward while he toured the University s campus.

Survivors include: his wife, Lisa Bryant Langley of Batesville, MS; sons: Robert "Robbie" Michael Langley, Jr. of Oxford, MS and Cory Bridges Langley of Batesville, MS; two step daughters, Maci Cheyenne Kirkland of Batesville, MS and Anne Claire Bufkin of Oxford, MS; sister, Racheal Langley of Kosciusko, MS; stepsster, Renee Howell of Carthage, MS; stepbrother, Chris Watkins of Pearl, MS; foster brothers: Jonathan Van Every of Brandon, MS and Kelsay Van Every of Brandon, MS; biological father, Larry Langley of Lena, MS; step mother, Sherry Donald Langley of Lena, MS; biological mother, Debbie Hearn Lloyd of Covington, LA; step father, Michael Lloyd of Covington, LA; foster parents: Eugene & Paula Van Every of Brandon, MS; biological grandparents: are paternal grandmother: Glenda Bridges Kuhn of Batesville, MS; paternal grandfather, Cecil Langley of Vicksburg, MS; maternal grandmother: Jannie Foster Hearn of Covington, LA; maternal grandfather: James T. Hearn of Hammond, LA; paternal Step Grandmother, Mary Langley of Vicksburg, MS; foster grandmother, Virginia Tardy of Cleveland, MS; mother & father-in-law, Henry & Linda Bryant of Batesville, MS.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Rusty Langley; biological great-grandparents, Lottie Mae Hunt & Whitnell Bridges of Carthage, MS; foster grandparents, H.K. & Lois Van Every & Paul Tardy; biological grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Langley of Holly Bluff, MS.
