Robert Leflore Obituary
Jackson
Dr. Robert Marion Leflore, born to the late, Armstrong and Mary Catherine Leftow (Hutchins) in Carthage, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2015, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Leflore retired as Dean of computer Services and Professor of Computer Science, Jackson State University.
He is survived by: his wife, Zelma Leflore; three children, Derrick (Constance) of Huntsville, Alabama, Daryl of Greensboro, North Carolina and Curtis (Rosveyarni) of Jackson, Mississippi; one sister, Bobbie (Nathaniel) Boyette of Durant, Mississippi; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Dr. Leflore began his academic career as a mathematics instructor at Valley State University, Itta Bena, Mississippi. He later taught mathematics at Lanier high School in Jackson before continuing work through a "teaching fellow" at the University of Oregon. After returning to his native roots in Mississippi, he served as Department Chairman of Computer Science at Valley State, later to join the academic staff at Jackson State University as Dean of Computer Services.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at New Hope Baptist Church, 5202 Watkins Drive, Jackson, Mississippi, followed by interment at Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015, (family present 5-6 p.m.) at Lakeover Funeral Home, 1525 Beasley Road, Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. LeFlore was one of the finest examples of a gentle intellectual giant that I have had the pleasure of knowing in academia. He marked the trail for Jackson State University's technological transition in the 1980s and 1990s. He set a supreme example of humility and competence. He contributed so much to my work as Vice President for Academic Affairs in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
My deepest sympathy is extended to his family and friends in Mississippi. carol surles
