I really did not know Sam much at all but was at MSU when he was elected Student Body President. My brother in law called me yesterday to see if I remembered him and I immediately could picture him after all these years. He was impressive and admired by many that he did not even know. What a compliment to him. I am sorry for your loss.

Dear Pam,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have done business with Sam for years now and always enjoyed meeting him for lunch on occasion. He always talked about you and the girls. I will miss my good friend. I just wanted you to know how much I have always thought of Sam.

I had the privilege of meeting Sam in the mid-nineties and working indirectly with him through two of the self-funded workers' comp. groups. He always had a smile for everyone and a dynamic personality that left a room brighter because he had been there. My sincere sympathy to his family.

Dear Pam, You do not know me. Sam was a significant influence in my early life. He then became a major influence in my brother's life, Gene Phillips, who took up triathlons and other exercise disciplines. I am deeply grieved to hear of Sam's death.

Pam, I met Sam at the Courthouse Gym. I, like Sam, am one of the few people who get up before sunrise to go workout. He was a pleasure to know. I prayed for him and Mr. Walter pretty much on a regular basis even when they were both in remission. One thing that amazed me was how much his faith grew once he was diagnosed with cancer and even more so after he went into remission. After his second run with this horrible disease he had Hope and Hope does not disappoint because his Hope was in Christ. Praise the LORD he is healed and not in pain. Please know, I will continue to pray for you and your family. Grief is a continuous process that never ends and you are not alone. He will be missed. I missed him today at the gym. But he will be remembered.

You have brought smiles and laughter to so many people during your rich, but all too brief, life. You have been a source of guidance during the years that we have known each other and words cannot describe how much you will be missed. I know that my life is richer for having known you. May God bless you and may God give comfort to your family during this time of loss.

Pam --Sam was a great friend and business collegue. He had the gift of being able to put a smile on everyone's face no matter what the circumstances were. He'll certainly be missed. My thoughts are with you Lanna and Cori.

Phillip Clinton called me Sat morning and related Sam's departure. I was a member of 'the family' back at MSU. This group of very close friends clearly centered around Sam. His love of life expressed by his contagious smile, laughter, and genuine warmth were omnipresent then and continues within so many today. Sam always put a big dose of sunshine into everyone who crossed his path. I still carry this sunshine.

Sam was with me when my beloved husband died, he taught me how to bait a hook so I could fish with my girls, and he made me laugh when I didn't think that was possible again. He was an everyday hero.

Knowing him has enriched my life more than words can say.

Pam, I am here for you and your girls, having walked the walk you are going through now.

I didn't really know Sam as an adult - hadn't seen him in years. I am 9 years younger than Sam and grew up across the street from him on Old Canton Lane. The Sam I remember was charasmatic and friendly and I'm sorry he is gone. My best to your family.

Pam,
I join the many others who grieve for your loss. You know, I haven’t seen much of Sam since sharing a house with him in college now over 30 years ago, yet Sam’s passing has saddened me and so many others with whom I have visited over the last day very deeply. By this time in our lives we have all attended far too many funerals—relatives and friends, old and young, sudden and lingering, but out of Sam’s death, or rather, his truly amazing life, have flowed an unexpected range of emotions from a whole host of heretofore jaded 50-somethings. The memories and the stories continue to flow unabated since the sad news began circulating. Such was the effect Sam had on so many on this earth. We are all blessed to have known him.
Peace be with you Sam.

Sam and Pam were a fine example of hope within our church family over the last few years. Sam contributed greatly to his school, community and church. His leaving us so early in life leaves a great void. - Deep sympathy from George & Jann Puckett.
