Terry Jenkins Obituary

Terry Lee Jenkins, 66, was taken from this life in an auto accident on Tuesday, November 27, 2007. Visitation was at Wright & Ferguson on Highland Colony Parkway, yesterday, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Pinelake Church on Lakeland Drive, today at 10 a.m. Family visitation will be at 9 a.m.
Terry Jenkins was born on April 6, 1941 in Jackson to William O. and Vera Jenkins. He lived much of his early years in Starkville, MS. Terry, owner of Terry Jenkins Builder Developer and Woodbridge, Inc., was in the building and development business for over 40 years. He was a member of the Home Builders Association of Jackson for more that 25 years. He developed much of south Jackson in the 1970's and 1980's. He was the largest developer in Rankin County for the last 7 years. Terry Jenkins developed and built homes, apartments and commercial buildings. He had current projects ongoing in Hattiesburg, MS and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Terry married the love of his life, Sheila Johnson Jenkins, on June 20, 1992 and spent everyday falling in love with her again. Their life together was spent in love and joy for one another, their family and friends, always taking care of those in need. When Terry heard of a cause or need he was always the first to help. Terry was a truly giving and selfless man in his charity to others. He and Sheila attended Pinelake Church.
Terry, also known as "Killer", "Hotdog" and "Pop Pop" to his family and multitude of friends, was loved by all. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always looked for the best in everyone. Terry will always be remembered for his love of the color orange. His laughter and antics sustained us all and lifted the spirits of all who were touched by him. He was a great humanitarian who gave abundantly. Psalm 23, Verse 6 describes Terry best "Surely, goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
For those of us who must wait to see him again, Psalm 29, Verse 11, must sustain us. "The Lord gives strength to His people and blesses His people with peace."
Terry is preceded in death by his parents.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila; sons, James Kevin Jenkins and Jeffrey Dixon Jenkins and wife, Whitney; his daughter, Terri Linn Jenkins Huff and husband, Bill. Also survived by his brothers, William O. Jenkins, Bobby Jenkins and Mickey Jenkins; grandchildren, Hannah and Brandon Huff, Jacob and Jane Claire Jenkins; wonderful family in laws, Keith Johnson, wife, Julie and children, Dawn Hosey and husband, Duke, and children, Nicholas and Heather, Sherry Dodson and children; nephew, Chad Dixon and many other nieces and nephews, his wonderful and faithful friends, Sam, Radar Jack and Jesse James. He is survived also by his beloved supper club of which he was the King, Court Jester and Lead Dancer.
Pallbearers are Bobby Clements, Bo Burghard, Richard Partridge, Wayne Jones, Gary Wray and Willie Smith.
Honorary Pallbearers are Gene Klotz, Jimmy Gray, Keith Johnson, Gary Johnson, Charles Porter , Pete Alman, and Bruce Sartin.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Sunnybrook Children's Home, 222 Sunnybrook Rd., Ridgeland, MS 39157.

Shelia, Eddy and I were out of town when we learned of Terry's death and want to extend our love and sympathy to you and the entire family. I shall always remember the care and compasion he had for his fellowman and that "crazy" little laugh he had. Terry was so full of fun and was a wonderful exmple of positive and good deeds. We shall all miss him. God is good and God is able and our prayer is that He will give you renewed strength during this time of sorrow. Please extend our love and prayers to Lynn, Jeff and Kevin.

Mine and Terry's friendship goes back to the early 60's. Terry was consistent in good times and bad times. We worked together several different times through the years. He was always a pleasure to be with whether working or playing. If more men were like him this world would be a better place. My dear longtime friend I will miss him until we are together again. FAMILY TAKE REST IN AND RECEIVE STRENGTH DURING THIS TIME FROM GOD.

Ms Sheila,
I have heard so much about the love that you and Mr. Terry shared. What a beautiful way to live.
2 Samuel 22:7 says, "In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry entered His ears."
Ms. Sheila, the Lord hears every thought, every sound, every cry. When words cannot express your sorrow, the Lord hears your cries. You are not alone.

It was with great sadness when Linda and I received the email from HBAJ this morning. Terry was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew him. He and Buddy were in High School in Jackson and I was at Clinton at the same time. Linda was in Buddy's class, but Jackson was so small that we all knew each other. May God bless and keep all of you in his hand. PEACE
