Rev. & Dr. Bowie will always be a positive part of our memory. Rev. Bowie was a great encourager and a great man of God. He taught the true unabated Word of God and has left a legacy - The Koinonia Baptist Church. God used him in many ways to educate and save souls.

I know he's still rejoicing "behind the purple hills...".

This was first preacher I felt that was really concerned about the youth and his community very genuine man. In my view there will never be another preacher close to his accomplishments. God bless the Bowie family.

Dear Dr. Bowie, Skip and Kim, May God comfort you in your loss. God used Pastor Bowie tremendously in the spiritual birth and development of so many! I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Rev. Bowie, I have fond memories of him when we were young and growing up in the Illinois State Convention.
I also remember how fond my parents(Hewitt & Doris Hudson) were of both of you.
Finally, I will never forget his words of encouragement when my Mom made her transition from this life on earth.
God bless you and the children.

I first met Rev. Bowie in July 2005. I was a freshman at the Reformed Theological Seminary Jackson, Mississippi and barely a week in the USA. A friend from the seminary was invited by Rev. Bowie to preach at Koinonia Baptist Church, and he asked me if I could accompany him and I gladly obliged. After the service, I visited with the reverend, and when he learnt that I was a theological student so far away from home in Africa, he took a very keen and pastoral interest in me.

Occasionally, he would send emails to me to find out how I was doing and assured me that I was constantly in his prayers. He invited me to preach at his church a couple of times, and my family felt very much at home among God's people at Koinonia. He was a humble and faithful servant of God. May the Lord comfort his family and the flock at Koinonia Baptist Church.

I just learned that Rev. Bowie passed. How I wish I had known that he lived so close. I have been in Memphis Tenn for the past 37 years. As a young graduate student in Carbondale, Rev. Bowie became my spiritual advisor away from home. I always admired his spirituality and his wisdom. He knew exactly what to say to a young woman trying to "figure out the world" in the early 70's. I cannot thank him--and by extension his family-- enough. Ms Gerri you probably do not remember me. I sang in the choir, typed and ran the bulletins and also did some secretarial work for Rev. During those times he counseled me as a young woman growing in the spirit. I know that Skip and Kim do not remember me. You were very young in the early/mid seventies. I want to thank the three of you for allowing your husband/father to give countless hours to me and other young men and women trying to find their way. I, along with numerous others, grew in the spirit and became the person I am because of his spiritual counsel and understanding.

May God continue to bless you all.

Gerri, Skip, Kim
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your other family members. I will always remember Rev. Bowie as a "gentle giant" - kind hearted with a powerful word and walk in the Lord. I pray that your fond memories and faith will sustain you.

October 8, 2011

Although I'm saddened by Reverend Bowie's passing, I am encouraged that he is at the right Hand of his Father in Heaven. Reverend Bowie was a Minister's Minister. He aptly demonstrated this by preaching thought-provoking sermons which stirred the soul, mentoring young men who heard God's calling for them to preach, and aptly demonstrating how to be an example for Christ.

To Mrs. Bowie, Skip, Kim, and Pam, my deepest sympathy on your loss. Know that Reverend Bowie is at peace and know, in time, all shall be reunited in the Lord.

With Love & Sympathy,

Even though I’ve been away from Jackson and have not had contact with Rev. Bowie for a number of years, I am still inspired by what I saw of his ministry and life – a life so well lived. My sincere condolences to the Bowie family and to members of Koinonia.

His influence, his confidence in me, his wisdom, his care in handling God's word, his love of family, his administrative skill in church matters, his preaching eloquence will go with me until the day when we shall meet again, perhaps
in that great getting up morning. Rest well my friend. See ya later!

A great voice has fallen silent and yet his words will echo throughout the halls of time. We are comforted by the scriptures - Job did not charge God foolishly, but fell on his face and worshiped the Lord. He told us that God giveth and God taketh away - Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

Sis. Bowie, Skip, Kim and the entire Bowie family, I owe a debt to God that I cannot repay - He brought Rev. Bowie into my life and by doing so, not only saved my life, but led me to the Lord for the saving of my soul. There is no greater gift. I look forward to seeing him again...in that place where the wicked have ceased from troubling and the weary are at rest! With Love.

Lynette Miller

October 6, 2011

What a great voice! I loved to hear him talk! The Carbondale community missed him when he relocated to Mississippi, but the legacy of his "Sons of Thunder," the continuing work of the young-now-seasoned ministers he influenced, the things Rock Hill MBC continues doing from the "Bowie Years," and most of all, that classic resonant baritone: we can remember, reflect and respect all those, and thank God for them. My condolences to the Bowie and Koinonia families.

Olive Missionary Baptist while I was growing up in the church he was a well loved friend, spiritual leader, an inspiration to many. He was truly blessed in all things.

Dear Bowie Family - I do not know any of you, but several years ago grew to love and respect Pastor Bowie as one of my "swimming partners" at the healthplex. We both swam laps and would stop and talk about the Lord Jesus Christ to whom we both belong. I have missed him very much and am sad to hear of His homegoing - not for Him - He is worshipping the Lord and Savior he shared! I am sad for all of us and for you who miss him so. My regards to the whole family. Jane Hensarling

So much can be said about a man that truly exemplified the true meaning of being a man of God. I have been blessed just being able to sit under the teachings of Rev. Bowie. Many years ago as a younger woman, the Lord led me to Rock Hill and I thank him for that. Rev. Bowie will always be cherished and will never be forgotten for what he has done in the lives of all who grew to love and respect him. Thank you Rev. Bowie for SICOCT - for this brought us together for many years and now as we gather in Jackson this weekend, my prayers are for Geri, Skip, Kim and Pam and the entire Koinonia Church Family. To Geri, thank you for the many times that you loaned Rev. Bowie to us - to be taught the true meaning of being a Christian. Love and Sympathy.

Pastor Bowie will be missed and will always be a part of us. He lived the life that he spoke about. He was a compassionate man filled with much hope, understanding, and much love for his brothers and sisters in Christ, and for God and for God’s Word. Pastor ignited the fire of divine thought and foresight and motivated us to follow after Christ and live a just life.

I can still see him standing eagerly at the Church door waiting to greet each of his congregants addressing them by name. I can still hear and see him laugh out loud at a good joke. I can still see him jaunt lightly down the hill through the parking lot to his office as if he didn’t have a care in the world, even if he was heavily burdened. But most of all, I can feel the spirit of his reverence for spreading God’s Word, unadulterated, undiluted, and truthfully.

Pastor Bowie is finally at home resting with the Father and discussing eschatology and rightly dividing the Word in heaven! What a sight! Dr. Geraldine Bowie, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Fran, Tiffany & Phil

Words cannot express the learning that Pastor Bowie poured into us at Koinonia. The Lord blessed us with him and, the teaching of the Lords word for many years “Pastor Bowie you’ve done a very good work in us”. "We will stay the Course". However you will be missed very much, you had a very special relationship with each of us that gave us courage, confidence and steadfastness in the WORD of God. Mrs. Bowie, you unselfishly allowed Pastor Bowie to be a true Christian Mentor and Pastor to all of us. I thank you for your kindness. I can imagine Pastor Bowie humbly saying to the Lord I have made it HOME “Master what is my next task? I am here to serve you in Spirit and Truth”. Michael & Christine McInnis.
