Violet Johns Obituary

Violet Johns, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2025 at the Broadmoor Medical Lodge in Rockwall, Texas. A private family burial will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. She will be laid to rest at Laurel Oaks Cemetery in Windsor, Missouri.

Violet was born on May 21, 1928 to John and Dollie (Paul) Garoutte in Iola, KS. She was a graduate of Stratford High School in 1945. The family moved to Windsor, MO in 1947 where she worked at the Telephone Company, Scotten's Bookstore, and then K-Mart until her retirement. She married Jerry Mac Johns in Windsor, MO on August 20, 1949. They had one son, Derrick Allen Johns. She moved to Texas in 2020 and considered herself an official Texan!

Violet was a woman of warmth, creativity, compassion and joy. Her adventurous spirit left little patience for sitting still, and she didn't let the ground get cold under her feet. She had a great love of exercise and walking, as well as games like Bingo, Pokeno, Dominoes, Sudoku and all kinds of card games, but Hand and Foot was her all-time favorite game. She loved sewing, crafting and the Red Hats Club. Motorcycle trips on the Harley and spending time traveling with her sisters and family held a special place in her heart. While it is known to many that Violet had a great memory – her sharp wit, independence and determination were extraordinary, she also had a hidden talent as a great artist and loved painting and drawing. Violet led a life of love, faith and giving. We will miss her and are so blessed to have had her in our lives.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Johns, parents: John and Dollie Garoutte, grandson: Cody Mac Johns, brother: John Garoutte, Jr., twin sisters: Joan Mullins and Joyce Fristoe, brother-in-laws: Grover Mullins and Jack Fristoe, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jesse and Stella Johns, sister-in-law: Muriel Kirby, and nephew: J.D. Mullins.

She is survived by her son, Derrick and wife Teresa, grandson, Matthew Lee Johns and wife Danica. She also leaves behind her cherished great grandchildren, Hudson Allen, Emma MacKenzie, Archer Timothy, Aceton Thomas, Anistyn Jordan, and Adley Kay. Her extended family includes niece: Vicki Harrison and husband John, nephew: Gary Mullins, Trevor and Tiffany Frances, Sheila Key, numerous friends, family and caretakers who loved her so much.

A private family burial was held October 14, 2025 in Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, MO.
