Frances McDaniel Rich, 93, of Garland, passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, in Elizabethtown. She was born March 3, 1932 in Sampson County to the late Lacy R McDaniel and Margaret Carter McDaniel.
She was a 1950 graduate of Garland High School and was the high school valedictorian. From there she attended Pineland College, and graduated with a degree in accounting. She worked for Ed Fleishman and Sons in Fayetteville after graduation. She married her sweetheart, Robert Lee Rich Sr., on March 24, 1956. She left Fleishman and Sons in 1956 and returned back to Garland. She then became a full-time bookkeeper for her husband's timber company and also became a full-time homemaker. She immersed herself into her family and church. She was a full time Sunday school teacher, choir member and organist for her church. She was a true prayer warrior for her family, neighbors and anyone else. She was well educated in the Bible, always ready to give an answer for the hope she had in Christ.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert and granddaughter Danielle Rich. She raised four children as well as several grand and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Ruth M. Johansson of Rock Hill, S.C.; son, Dr. Robert (Chuck) Rich Jr and wife Faye of Bladenboro; son, Daniel H. Rich and wife Laurie of Garland; son, Raymond W. Rich and wife April of Harrells, and daughter Carrie R. Cain and husband Sanford C. Cain of Harrells; grandson, Jason Lee Cain and wife Amanda of Harrells; grandson, Alexander R. Rich of Harrells; granddaughter, Kathy Metrick and husband Aaron of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Sarah Grace Cain, Conner Lee Cain, Charlotte Metrick, Arabelle Metrick, and Elise Metrick.
The family wishes to recognize the care and comfort given to our loved one, including Mrs. Claudia Mathis, Mrs. Lila Baldwin, Rev Archie Paul Bullard, staff of Elizabethtown Nursing Center and Liberty Hospice in Elizabethtown.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 6-8 p.m., at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Garland Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 475 West 2nd St., Garland. Interment to follow at the Garland Cemetery. Officiating the service is Reverend Jeff Testerman, with the assistance of Reverend Dewy Ball, Reverend Archie Bullard, and Reverend Jim Woodruff.
