Peggy Richardson Obituary

Peggy Nobles Richardson

CLINTON — Mrs. Peggy Nobles Richardson, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Clinton, NC with the Rev. Matt Seals officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery. A visitation with family and friends will be held prior to the service, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

Born in 1929 in Craven County, Peggy was the daughter of the late Jack Nobles and Ester Newell Nobles. After graduating from high school in Ft. Barnwell, NC, she attended Pineland College in Salemburg, NC. She married Street Richardson in 1950 and they lived a wonderful life together, always enjoying time spent with family and friends. As a couple, and as parents, they loved camping and traveling throughout the United States with Craig and Tim. They especially had fond memories of trips made with fellow members of the Carolina Telephone Pioneers Camping Club. Peggy spent the last 25 years of employment working with the Sampson County Health Department, and upon retirement, continued many years of travel with Street. Peggy was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Clinton Women's Club and Clinton Garden Club for over sixty years, holding numerous leadership positions in these and other organizations in support of her community.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Waldron Street Richardson, and her brother, Jack Byrd Nobles.

She is survived by her two sons, Craig Richardson, and wife, Kay of Clinton, Tim Richardson and wife, Vicki of Fayetteville, along with her brother, Tucker Nobles of Louisburg. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Lindsay Matthews and husband, Jake of Clinton, and Taylor Whitley, and husband, Greg of Fayetteville, along with six great-grandchildren, Olivia Matthews, Ava Matthews, Savannah Matthews, Bevan Matthews, Reid Whitley, and Hugh Street Whitley.

Special thanks to Annie Joyner, Dorothy Scrivner-Donis and Jennifer Matthis during Peggy's final years, as they were her dearly loved caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 208 Sampson St., Clinton, NC 28328.

Peggy was a dear friend and was someone I admired and looked up to. She was a leader in our church, especially the United Methodist Women. I fondly remember the Sunday that we both spoke at our United Methodist Women,s day. She was an awesome Christian lady. I feel she was one of my mentors at our church.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of Peggy. We shared an office in the Health Dept. for several years. She was such a nice person and a true "southern lady".
