Connie Geipel Obituary

Connie Geipel

Fort Collins - Connie A. Geipel, 88, of Fort Collins passed away May 3, 2021. She was born February 28,1933 in Evansville, IN. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Geipel, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Horst A. Geipel, siblings Margaret Helen Buck, Richard D. Havens, and James "Bud" Havens as well as parents Ross H. and Edith B. Havens. A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Connie's witty sense of humor, kindness, ability to empathize, and talent will be missed by all who knew her. She had the ability to always try to see the good in others, and to treat them with respect and dignity. Connie was known for bursting into song at the drop of a song cue, and sang in various church choirs and community choruses throughout her life. Most recently, she enjoyed singing with The Silvertones.

When Connie met Horst Geipel at the commercial printing company where they both worked in Evansville, she knew he was "the One" and the feeling was mutual. He had emigrated to the United States from Munich, Germany, where he was born in 1934. They were married in April, 1957, and two weeks later he reported to Fort Bragg, NC as he had been drafted before even becoming a U.S. citizen. She soon joined him and they lived off-base in a tiny trailer. After Horst's honorable discharge, they returned to Evansville where they lived until moving to St. Louis, MO. In 1975, they moved with their daughter to Fort Collins in order to be close to the mountains. Here, Connie worked part-time as an assistant apartment manager until 1986.

An avid reader, Connie also loved music, especially classical, opera, and Gilbert and Sullivan; singing, birdwatching, gardening, fishing (when she was younger), dogs, and just being out in Nature.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Larimer Humane Society "In Memory of Murphy", 3501 E 71st St, Loveland CO 80538-1119.
