Hazel Rattey Obituary

HAZEL BELLE RATTEY
October 24, 1927 ~ November 2, 2011

Hazel Belle Rattey, 84, passed away on November 2, 2011 at her home at Glenwood Place Retirement Center from complications of cancer. Hazel was born on October 24, 1927 in Tillamook, Oregon, the sixth child to Mable and Albert Mapes of Bay City, Oregon, where she spent her youth.
Hazel attended Linfield College where she met her husband, John Richard Rattey of Portland, Oregon. They married on May 15, 1948 and resided in Vancouver, Washington.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, John (1922-2004), their son, Paul Timothy Rattey (1956-1997), and siblings Joe Mapes, Viola Vermilyea (Fred), Irene Rock, and Frank Mapes (June). She is survived by her brother Don Mapes of Bay City, Oregon, and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Both John and Hazel had a passion for golf and were long standing members of Royal Oaks Country Club (1954) where Hazel served as president of the Ladies' Auxiliary (1976) and enjoyed bridge with friends. When not on the golf course, Hazel worked for her husband in his real estate office and volunteered at the Cancer Society Discovery Shop on Main Street.
Thank you to Glenwood Place Retirement Center for their compassionate and respectful care of Hazel and for their on-going support and concern for those of us who loved her. Thank you to Hospice Southwest for their care and support.
At Hazel's request, no service will be held. Please remember her kindly in your hearts.

Hazel and John were strong role models for me when I was friends with Paul. Paul was a good friend for many years. But his Mom was a special person I will never forget

I was blessed to know Hazel and John when I dated their son Paul many years ago. Hazel was a loving mom and very special to me. May they all be at peace together. Love always, Cathy <3

Hazel was such fun on the golf course and at the bridge table. She was a very good friend to many of us at Royal Oaks. I'll always remember her great sense of humor when we played the horse races on the golf course.
Rest in peace, Hazel and condolences to the many surviving members of her family.
Fondly, Donna Kennedy
