MADISON - Darlene E. Scheer, 80, of Madison, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Countryside Home in Madison.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Madison. The Rev. Dermot Dunn will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Thursday, at St. Leonard's Catholic Church. A wake service will be at 7 p.m.
Darlene was born on March 26, 1926, in Madison, the daughter of Tony and Minnie Weiland. She graduated from Madison High School in 1944.
On April 9, 1945, Darlene married Lyle Jurgens. Together, they had six children. Lyle died in a farm accident on Jan. 31, 1954. She married George V. Scheer on Nov. 27, 1962. Together, they had four children. George died on Aug. 6, 1977.
Darlene was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and an avid camper, bowler, golfer, nickel slot gambler and crafter.
She was a member of St. Leonard's Catholic Church, a member of the St. Leonard's Guild, active in the Madison Senior Center and a member of the Board of Directors of Countryside Home for 26 years. She managed and owned the S & S Variety and the DnJ Variety in Madison throughout her life time.
Darlene is survived by her children and their families: Judy Griffith of Ashland, Bob and Suzette Jurgens, Dick Jurgens and Sherry Unger, Lyle and Sue Jurgens, Larry and Mary Jurgens, all of Madison, Ron and Denise Jurgens, John Scheer and Sheri Scheer of Lincoln, Anthia and Tim Salmen of Waverly, Lynn and Chip Aananson of Anderson, S.C., Lisa and Gary Miller of Norfolk; 28 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters and their families: Charlotte and Pete Mimick of Norfolk, Shirley and Ralph Woken of Stanton; sister-in-laws: Vi Weiland of Albion, Rose Weiland of Madison and Pat Weiland of Columbus; and 27 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; her brothers, Gib, Bill and Yode Weiland; and one great granddaughter, MaKayla Jurgens-Koss.
