Dean L. Hagelstein
November 15, 1958 – February 16, 2024
Dean, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away February 16, 2024 after a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. He grew up in Columbus, Nebraska where he attended Columbus schools, graduating from Columbus High in 1977. Shortly after graduation, Dean hired out as a switch person with Union Pacific Railroad in Columbus. That's where he met Crystal (Meays). Dean and Crystal married on May 29, 1982 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Omaha, where they had three wonderful children. Dean and Crystal built a beautiful life together consisting of family, travel, laughter and love. Dean had several positions with Union Pacific in his 39 years of service before retiring in 2017, as General Superintendent at the Harriman Dispatching Center.
Dean was preceded in death by his mother Lillian Hagelstein.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Crystal (Meays); children: Trent, Brett (Melissa), Tori Hagelstein; grandchildren: Skylar, Braxtyn, Barrett, Willow; father Dean E. Hagelstein; brother David Hagelstein; sisters: Vicki (Harold) Druepple, Sherry Hagelstein; brothers-in-law: John (Janet), Scott Meays; many other relatives and friends.

Crystal & family, I'm so sorry to hear that Dean has passed away. He was a kind colleague. I enjoyed working with him in Council Bluffs. The last time I saw him was your bowling adventure in Elkhorn. His family is where his heart was! My deepest sympathies on your loss.
