MADISON - Douglas J. Schaffer, 60, of Madison, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at his home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison, with the Rev. Sharon Stevens officiating. Burial is at Crown Hill Cemetery in Madison, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 35 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5763.
Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. on Sunday at Resseguie Funeral Home in Norfolk.
Mr. Schaffer was born Aug. 2, 1945, in Norfolk, to Herman and Grace (Morton) Schaffer. He moved with his family to a farm west of Madison and then graduated from Madison High School in 1964. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from May 12, 1966 until May 10, 1968.
He married Marjorie Drahota on April 3, 1970, in Lincoln. The couple resided in Madison where he worked for M & H Oil until retiring in 1993 due to his health. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 35 and VFW Post No. 5763 and their F Troop.
Survivors include two sons, James (Christina) Schaffer of Humphrey and Marcus Schaffer of Madison; daughter, Christine (Dave) Messinger of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Lauren Osweiler of Norfolk and Haleigh Messinger of Hendersonville, Tenn.; brother, Jerry (Sue) Schaffer of Meadow Grove; and sister, Annette (Gene) Delozier of Columbus.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
