Evangeline "Van" ChlopekDecember 30, 1923-November 25, 2019

Evangeline "Van" Chlopek, 95, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at her home surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, with a 7 p.m. vigil at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 8-9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at McKown Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Bonaventure Church or to Scotus Central Catholic

Evangeline was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Columbus, to John and Anna (Pilakowski) Mitera. She grew up in Genoa and graduated from Genoa High School in 1942. After high school, Van worked for the U.S. State Department in Washington DC. On May 23, 1945, she was united in marriage to Joseph Chlopek in St. Edward. They farmed in the Belgrade Cedar Rapids area. Van and Joe owned and operated the West Chicago Store in rural Genoa for 15 years. The couple then moved to the farm near Richland. Van loved quilting, Mother Nature, and cooking. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, perpetual adoration, Secular Order of Franciscans, and a lifetime member of D.A.V. Auxiliary.

She is survived by son, Jerry (Geanne) Chlopek of Columbus; daughter, Paula (Jack) Young of Columbus; son, James Chlopek of Richland; daughter, Joanna Chlopek of Richland; daughter, Mary Jo Petersen of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, Theresa (Richard) Varner of Ooltewah, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian Stubbs of Seadrift, Texas.

She is preceded by husband, Joseph Chlopek; parents; sister, Rose Mary Lewis.
